Website URL Redirect Script

I need a small, reliable piece of software that automatically forwards visitors from one web address to another on a traditional website. The job is strictly URL redirection—no email or file handling is involved. Because the site structure may evolve in the future, I’m open to whichever method (301, 302, or even meta-refresh) you feel is most appropriate; the key requirement is that the redirect works quickly, preserves SEO where possible, and is simple for me to amend later if new pages are added.
