Project Overview

I have a completed self-help manuscript that is ready for a fresh, expert editorial perspective. I’m looking for an experienced developmental editor to evaluate the manuscript at the big-picture level and help ensure the book is structured, engaging, cohesive, and impactful.

The primary focus should be on the overall framework and content. Line editing can come later once the structure is solid.

What I Need Help With
• Evaluate the overall structure and organization of the manuscript
• Assess whether each chapter flows logically into the next
• Identify areas that feel repetitive, unclear, underdeveloped, or out of place
• Evaluate pacing and the progression of ideas
• Ensure the tone remains consistently encouraging and engaging
• Assess whether the exercises, reflections, and takeaways have meaningful impact
• Identify opportunities to strengthen reader engagement and emotional connection
• Recommend chapter reordering or restructuring where appropriate
• Flag gaps in content, logic, or depth
• Provide clear, actionable recommendations for revision.

• Edited manuscript in Microsoft Word with Track Changes and comments showing structural suggestions, queries, and recommended revisions
• Concise editorial report summarizing:

• Key next steps for revision
• Optional 30-minute consultation call to discuss major feedback after I have reviewed the edits

I’m looking for someone with demonstrated experience in developmental editing, particularly in:

• Self-help
• Psychology
• Personal growth
• Personal development
• Behavioral or mental health nonfiction

Experience working with authors to transform an early or completed draft into a stronger, more cohesive manuscript is highly preferred.
