A Windows-based desktop application is needed to plan our workshop’s day-to-day jobs while also projecting capacity months ahead for quoting and production planning. The software must let me see, at a glance, whether today’s manpower can cover scheduled work and whether future orders will push us into overallocation or leave profitable gaps that can be sold.

Key capabilities I must see
• Daily workshop scheduling (Must be able to manage 50+ employees and 100+jobs with 1-500 tasks per job)
• Long-term workload forecasting
• Manpower allocation

Functionally, the program should offer an intuitive calendar or Gantt-style view where tasks can be dragged to different bays or teams, automatically adjusting each operator’s load and flagging clashes. On the longer horizon, I need a forecasting module that rolls up confirmed and tentative jobs to generate lead-time estimates and highlight any weeks where capacity falls short or remains unused. Simple colour cues for overload/under-load, printable and exportable reports (CSV / Excel), and the option to tweak labour hours or shift patterns are essential.

The application will run exclusively on Windows, so a .NET (WPF/WinUI), JavaFX, or similarly robust framework is fine—whichever you are most effective with. A lightweight local database such as SQLite is adequate, though the design should leave room for a future networked upgrade.

Additionally, the tool must be simple, user-friendly, support multi-user editing, and allow simultaneous viewing by multiple users.

Deliverables
1. Compiled Windows installer and clean, well-commented source code
2. Brief user guide covering daily scheduling, forecast generation, and data backup
3. Acceptance walk-through showing:
– a full week scheduled without conflicts,
– an over-capacity scenario correctly flagged, and
– a forecast report demonstrating projected lead-time for a new order.

Let me know your proposed tech stack and any previous scheduling engines you have built so we can move forward quickly.
