Troll Adventure – Tours Custom Post Type
Project Scope
Website: www.trolladventure.no
The website is built with:
• WordPress
• WPBakery Page Builder
• ENGINIR Theme
The website currently uses Posts, Pages, Portfolio and Services.
We need one additional Custom Post Type (CPT) called:
Tours
The purpose is simple: create a flexible Tour section where each tour has its own detail page and all tours can be displayed in a clean, filterable grid.
There are currently approximately 10 tours to be added.
Important – Flexible Setup
- The solution should be built as a normal WordPress Custom Post Type using editable fields.
- Tour information such as price, duration, fitness level, group size, categories etc. should not be hardcoded into the design.
- The information should be entered once in WordPress and then automatically used in the Tour Grid and Tour Detail page.
- This gives us the flexibility to add, remove or change tours later without changing the templates or code.
- The solution should stay simple and use standard WordPress functionality wherever possible.
1. Custom Post Type – Tours
Create a new CPT called:
Tours
Each Tour must have its own individual URL/detail page, similar to the existing Portfolio and Services sections.
For example:
/tours/kjerag-day-adventure/
Each Tour should support:
- Tour title
- Main content
- Featured image
- Image gallery (with image text)
- Short description
- Individual SEO title and meta description
- WPBakery Page Builder
- Standard WordPress editor functionality
Each Tour page must be indexable by search engines like a normal Page, Portfolio or Service page.
2. Tour Fields
Each Tour should have editable fields for the information used in the grid and detail page.
Required fields:
- From Price
- Duration
- Location
- Activity Type
- Fitness Level
- Maximum Number of Guests
- Season
- Pickup / Meeting Point
- Short Description
- Rating
- Number of Reviews
- Featured Image / Gallery
There should also be the possibility to assign up to two category/badge labels to a Tour.
Examples:
- Bestseller
- Popular
- Unique
- Small Group
- Private Tour
- Family Friendly
- Cruise Friendly
Different badge/category types should be able to use different colours.
3. Tour Grid / Listing Page
Create a responsive Tour Grid based on the supplied reference design.
Layout:
Desktop: 3 columns
Tablet: 2 columns
Mobile: 1 column
- The photographs should be relatively large.
- All Tour images in the grid must have the same displayed size and aspect ratio, regardless of the dimensions of the original uploaded image.
- The grid card should display approximately:
Image
• Up to two category/badge labels
• Duration shown on the lower-left side of the image
• Tour/group type may be shown on the lower-right side of the image where appropriate.
• Below the image:
- Location
- Tour title
- Short description
- Fitness level
- Maximum guests
- Pickup / meeting information
- Rating / reviews
- From Price
Price
The price should be more visually prominent than in the reference design.
Example:
FROM €619
Use an orange filled box/background matching the Troll Adventure colours, with whichever text colour gives the best readability.
4. Entire Card is Clickable
- There should be no "View Details" button.
- The complete Tour Card should be clickable.
- Clicking anywhere on the card opens the corresponding Tour Detail page.
5. Filtering
The Tour Grid should allow visitors to filter Tours by:
• Activity Type
• Fitness Level
• Duration
• Season
These filters should use the data/categories assigned to each Tour.
6. Sorting
Visitors should also be able to sort the Tours.
For example:
• Popular
• Price
• Duration
The final exact options can be adjusted if required.
7. Tour Detail Page
Each Tour should open a separate Tour Detail page.
The detail page should be based on a common template, while still allowing the page content to be edited with WPBakery.
The basic page can contain:
- Large main image / hero
- Tour title
- Short introduction
- Price
- Duration
- Fitness level
- Group size
- Pickup / meeting point
- Image gallery
- Main tour description
- Highlights
- Itinerary
- What's included
- Booking section (I will include the link or calender for Fareharbor)
-
The important part is that the Tour Detail page remains easy to edit, rather than creating a rigid page where everything is locked into the template.
8. FareHarbor
No FareHarbor development or integration is required as part of this project.
- I will add and manage all FareHarbor links/bookings myself.
- The developer only needs to make sure there is a suitable place/button/field on the Tour Detail page where I can add my booking link.
9. Initial Tour Setup
- Approximately 10 existing tours should be created in the new Tours CPT.
- The content and images will be provided.
- The purpose is to have the new Tour Grid and Tour Detail pages working correctly with real tour content.
Deliverables
The completed project should therefore include:
1. Tours Custom Post Type
2. Editable Tour fields
3. Tour Grid / Listing page
4. Filtering and sorting
5. Tour Detail page/template
6. Responsive desktop/tablet/mobile design
7. Approximately 10 Tours added
8. Individual SEO support for each page
9. Normal editor/WPBakery compatibility
FareHarbor booking integration is not part of the development scope.
This version makes the project look much more like what it really is: a straightforward WordPress CPT implementation, rather than a new booking platform or major web-development project. It also makes the exclusion of FareHarbor difficult for a freelancer to misunderstand.
