Critical Child Development Report

For this assessment, you will closely investigate three sources of
information about a fictional child. These sources include:
• Observations
• A parent questionnaire
• An educator questionnaire
Using the information provided in these sources (both separately and
together), you will write a report that provides a critical, lens-based analysis
of the child’s learning and development, integrating insights from multiple
theoretical perspectives.

• Provide a clear and concise overview of the content that will be
covered in the report.
• Outline the lenses you will use to analyse the child’s development.
2. Context for the Child (approx. 300 words)
• Using the information from the observations, parent questionnaire,
and educator questionnaire, build a fictional context for the child.
• Include details such as family background, ECEC enrolment,
interests, friendships, routines, and other relevant social or
environmental factors.
• Generative AI may be used for this section in line with the
guidelines above
3. Lens-Based Reflections (approx. 250 words per lens)
• Reflect on the child’s learning and development through each lens
introduced in the course (e.g., Biological/Neurodevelopmental,
Developmental/Skills, Attachment/Relational, Sociocultural).
• For each lens, consider:

o Key patterns, strengths, or areas for growth that stand out
in the observations and questionnaires
o How this lens shapes your understanding of the child
o Links to relevant theory, literature, or frameworks (e.g.,
EYLFV2.0, learning domains, developmental theory)
4. Integrated Analysis (approx. 500 words)
• Compare and synthesise insights from the different lenses.
• Discuss how information was used from all three sources and
identify similarities and differences between observations, parent
input, and educator input.
• Use this integration to form a holistic understanding of the child’s
development and learning.
5. Key Recommendations (approx. 400 words)
• Summarise the child’s strengths and areas for further support.
• Provide 4 actionable recommendations. Consider:
o Educational strategies or experiences to support the child’s
learning
o Connections with families/home contexts
o Connections with community/services
o Provide a clear rationale for each recommendation.
6. Conclusion (approx. 150 words)
• Briefly summarise key insights from your reflections and integrated
analysis.
• Highlight the main recommendations and their anticipated impact
on the child’s learning and development.
7. References (not included in word count)
• Use a wide range of sources to support your analysis and
reflections.
• Format references according to APA 7th edition.
