# Freelancer Project: Simple Android Phone Call Recording App (Java)

## 1. Project Overview

I need a very simple Android application developed in **Java using Android Studio** that can record phone calls on supported Android devices.

The application should have minimal UI and straightforward functionality. The main objective is to achieve reliable call recording on Android 12 and newer devices wherever the operating system and device manufacturer permit it.

## 2. Technical Requirements

- Programming language: Java
- IDE: Android Studio
- Minimum target devices: Android 12 (API 31) and newer
- Native Android application; no Flutter, React Native, or other cross-platform frameworks
- Simple, clean code that is easy to understand and maintain
- No unnecessary libraries or complicated architecture

## 3. Required Features

### A. First-Time Setup

When the application is opened for the first time:

- Display a simple explanation of the app's recording functionality.
- Request the necessary Android permissions.
- Explain any additional settings or user actions required by the device.
- Do not start recording until the user has provided the required consent and permissions.

### B. Call Recording

- Detect incoming and outgoing calls where Android permits.
- Start recording when a supported call begins.
- Stop recording when the call ends.
- Record both sides of the conversation where technically supported.
- Avoid creating empty or unusable audio files.
- Handle interrupted calls, permission revocation, and recording errors.

### C. Background Operation

- Recording should continue when the app is in the background, subject to Android restrictions.
- Use the appropriate Android service and notification requirements.
- Do not bypass Android security restrictions or microphone privacy indicators.
- Do not claim compatibility with devices on which call audio is inaccessible.

### D. Saved Recordings

- Save recordings locally on the phone.
- Use a clear file-naming format containing the date and time.
- Provide a simple screen to view and play saved recordings.
- Do not upload recordings to any server or cloud service.

### E. Simple User Interface

The application only needs:

- A basic home screen
- Permission/setup status
- A list of saved recordings
- A playback option
- A basic recording error/status message

## 4. Mandatory Compatibility Testing

The freelancer must test the application on actual Android 12 or newer phones, not only an emulator.

Testing must cover:

1. Incoming calls
2. Outgoing calls
3. Whether both parties can be heard in the saved audio
4. Recording when the app is in the background
5. Screen locked during a call
6. Recording stops correctly when the call ends
7. Behavior after restarting the phone
8. Permission denial and revocation
9. Recording files that are not empty, corrupted, or silent

Please specify the exact phone models and Android versions tested.

**Important:** If a device blocks third-party call-audio recording, document the limitation instead of presenting a microphone recording as a successful phone call recording.

## 5. Deliverables

The freelancer must provide:

- Complete Android Studio Java source code
- A working APK for testing
- The complete project with Gradle configuration
- Instructions for building and installing the APK
- A list of permissions and any required device settings
- Actual-device testing results
- A short explanation of known Android/device limitations

## 6. Acceptance Criteria

The project will be accepted when:

- The source code builds successfully in Android Studio.
- First-time permission handling works correctly.
- Supported calls produce playable recordings.
- The recordings contain the expected conversation audio, not just silence or microphone noise.
- Incoming and outgoing call behavior is documented separately.
- The app handles failures without crashing.
- The freelancer demonstrates the working application on a real Android 12+ device.

## 7. Before Applying

Please answer these questions in your proposal:

1. Have you previously developed a native Android call-recording application in Java?
2. Which Android versions and phone models have you successfully tested?
3. Can your implementation record both sides of a normal cellular phone call on those devices?
4. What limitations do you expect on Android 12, 13, 14, 15, or newer?
5. Can you provide a demonstration of an actual saved recording before final delivery?

Please do not apply if your solution only records the microphone while the other party's voice remains silent.

## 8. Project Scope

This is a small, standalone Android project. I do not need a server, online account, subscription system, cloud storage, or complicated user interface.

Priority: **A working, tested solution on specifically identified compatible devices, with complete Java source code.**
