About the Role Our client is building a system that takes repetitive sales work — like data entry, lead creation, and pipeline updates — off people’s plates. No code, no APIs, no regex. Just a few clicks and plain English. We’re looking for a Staff Backend Engineer to help scale the backend infrastructure that powers this. You’ll work on real-world automation challenges and lead backend architecture as we grow. Key Responsibilities Design and build scalable, reliable backend systems using a modern serverless stack. Work directly with the founders and senior engineers to make architecture and product decisions. Mentor engineers, review code, and raise the bar on quality and performance. Lead long-term projects from planning through launch — with clear milestones and tradeoffs. Own DevOps and infrastructure decisions — make sure things run smoothly in production. Write clean, tested code and take responsibility for what you ship. Qualifications/Requirements 10+ years of backend engineering experience, including database design and scaling systems. Strong technical judgment — you can spot risks, call out tradeoffs, and keep things simple. A track record of mentoring engineers and improving team workflows. Experience working with AWS services like Lambda, AppSync, API Gateway, DynamoDB, and IAM. Solid with Node.js, TypeScript, and comfortable writing tests with tools like Jest or Playwright. You’re thoughtful about technical debt — and know when to avoid it or contain it. You care about building useful, reliable software more than chasing hype. Nice to have: Experience building GraphQL APIs or similar systems. Familiar with Auth systems like Cognito, Okta, or Auth0. Worked on Chrome extensions, or complex frontend/backend integrations. Exposure to LLM or vector search systems in production. Experience with Infrastructure as Code, like CDK or Serverless Framework. Comfortable jumping into the frontend when needed (React, Vue, etc.).
