I have already pieced together a working prototype of my Windows-based voice assistant, FRIDAY, using speech-recognition libraries, a handful of system-control APIs and a basic GUI toolkit. It can launch, respond and do a few simple tricks, but the modules still feel bolted on. I now need the whole solution tightened into a single, polished application that looks vibrant, responds faster and behaves reliably in the background.
Here is what matters most:
• Voice commands that open or switch between installed apps without fuss
• Hands-free Google and YouTube searches, with spoken or on-screen results
• Smooth system controls—volume up/down, mute, brightness toggle, etc.
Beyond those core skills, FRIDAY should also keep its existing features (weather, time, email/WhatsApp, file management, screenshots) and wake on a custom hot-word. All functionality must run from a colourful, engaging desktop window that shows live status and our conversation history—no clutter, but plenty of personality.
Deliverables
1. Refactored, well-commented Python source (PEP-8) with modules clearly separated for speech, intent parsing, actions, GUI and background services.
2. A persistent background service with wake-word detection that spawns the GUI when needed.
3. A new Qt/Tk/other GUI that carries the FRIDAY brand, colour-rich yet lightweight.
4. Installer or step-by-step setup script plus README explaining dependencies, configuration and how I can add or modify skills later.
5. Short demo clip or screenshots confirming the three priority tasks above work end-to-end.
Acceptance criteria: application installs cleanly on Windows 10/11, wake-word detection averages
