Modify Division Behavior in a Specific SymPy Function

I’m looking for an experienced Python/SymPy developer who can modify the mathematical calculation behavior inside one specific function.

I need division within this function to return only the whole number before the decimal point. For example:

10 / 3 → 3
7 / 2 → 3
9 / 4 → 2
10 / 5 → 2

Important requirements:

This behavior must apply only inside the specific function I provide, not globally to Python or SymPy.
I cannot use floor(), modular arithmetic (%), or similar workarounds.
I need the solution to use linear arithmetic so that the resulting expressions remain compatible with Eq() and my SymPy summation calculations.
Using floor, modulo, or other non-linear operations currently produces expressions that cause problems when I use Eq() inside my summations.

I’m looking for someone who understands SymPy internals, symbolic mathematics, and Python’s calculation system and can implement this cleanly without affecting other calculations.

Please explain how you would approach making this change locally within the specific function.

This is an example of the script (it has similar functionality to my main script which is complex):

from sympy import symbols, Eq, Sum, solve

i, target = symbols('i target', integer=True)

# The formula
expression = i / 3

# The value we want to search for
target_value = 4

# Find the index where the formula reaches the target value
equation = Eq(expression, target_value)

# Final summation
summation = Sum(Eq(expression, target_value), (i, 1, 20))

print("Formula:", expression)
print("Target value:", target_value)
print("Index:", solve(equation, i))
print("Summation:", summation)
