About me:
I'm a mechanical engineer myself, and I have a few projects like this per year, so this could lead to repeat work if it goes well.
What I need:
I need a mechanical engineer to design a steel frame structure in SolidWorks, based on measurements, loads, and material specs I'll provide. Assembly method (welded, bolted, or a mix) will vary by project and will be specified per job.
Deliverables:
1. Full 3D SolidWorks model (native .SLDPRT/.SLDASM files) of the complete structure — editable, not just a picture.
2. Fabrication drawings (PDF + DXF/DWG) including:
• Overview assembly drawing with overall dimensions
• Individual part drawings for each component, with all dimensions
• Bill of materials (part list with quantities)
• Weld callouts where applicable (type and location of all welds)
• Bolt/screw/anchor specifications where applicable (size, grade, quantity)
3. Structural analysis / FEA (Finite Element Analysis) report using SolidWorks Simulation, showing:
• The load case(s) applied and where
• Stress results (max stress vs. yield strength of the material)
• Displacement results
• Safety factor / conclusion on whether the design is safe for the stated load
