Our sports venue runs on an ageing electronic scoreboard built around seven-segment LED and P10 LED panels. It still works, but erratically, and it can only be operated from the hard-wired control box bolted under the grandstand. I need the whole system modernised so I can walk onto the field with a phone or tablet and run the show from there.
Scope of work
• Inspect every board, power rail and driver on the existing hardware, replace any damaged or obsolete parts, and leave the display fully refurbished.
• Design and build a new controller unit that adds rock-solid wireless connectivity plus a battery-backup circuit so a brief power loss never blanks the screen.
• Write clean firmware for that controller, making sure it can address both the seven-segment digits and the P10 matrix for centre messages.
• Create a companion mobile application (Android and, ideally, iOS) that lets an authorised user:
– Enter and update scores in real time
– Start, stop and reset the game timer
– Edit team names and the match title displayed on the centre panel
• Implement a secure, low-latency wireless link between app and controller (Wi-Fi, BLE, or another protocol you can justify) that holds up in a crowded stadium.
• Deliver an operator interface that is obvious to a non-technical volunteer, with large touch targets and clear status feedback.
Acceptance criteria
1. From power-on, the scoreboard must connect to the app within 10 seconds and stay paired for a full four-hour match without dropouts.
2. Score updates, timer events and text changes must reach the display in under 300 ms.
3. During a mains outage the battery backup must keep the display lit for at least 15 minutes.
4. Full wiring diagrams, PCB files, firmware source, app source and a short maintenance guide are handed over at project close.
If you’ve rebuilt LED signage, worked with microcontrollers such as ESP32/STM32, and shipped Flutter/React Native apps—or have a better toolchain in mind—let’s get this scoreboard ready for the next season.
