1. Project Overview & Scope of Work
We are seeking a licensed Structural Engineer (SE) to provide structural calculations, engineering details, and wet-stamped construction drawings suitable for submission to the City of San Clemente Building and Planning Divisions. The project encompasses a residential backyard terrace extension with the following specifications:

Elevated Suspended Concrete Deck Platform:

Dimensions: 30 feet wide by 12 feet deep (360 sq. ft.) at a finished elevation of 6 feet above local grade.

Structural Slab: 4,000 PSI structural concrete mix poured over 1.5-inch 18/20-gauge galvanized corrugated steel B-decking, reinforced with a continuous deformed rebar grid mat, engineered for a 50 PSF residential live load plus dead loads.

Hybrid/Split Foundation & Support System:

Left & Center Support: Existing drawings verify that the masonry walls on the left-hand side (excluding the front wall of the spa equipment enclosure) are active, fully filled, and reinforced retaining walls. The design will utilize structural epoxy-anchored rebar dowels to tie the left side of the deck ledger/framing into these verified active retaining walls.

Right-Hand Side Support: Bypasses earth retention on the sloping 21-degree terrain via a deep pier and post-and-beam system (utilizing Sonotube concrete piers, 6x6 pressure-treated structural posts, and engineered multi-ply 2x12 or Parallam PSL header beams).

Upper Slope Transition (Stepped Retaining & Planter Walls):

A dual-tier stepped arrangement spanning 5–6 feet wide across the center section to square off an irregular hill profile.

Lower Tier: A 2-foot structural/CMU planter front wall forming a 24-inch wide edge planter, finished with a 12-inch wide concrete seating coping.

Upper Tier: A 2-to-3-foot light retaining wall positioned directly behind the planter beneath the rising fence line to create a level terraced planting bed.

Front Elevation & Drainage Integration:

A 30-foot continuous front elevation wrapping the existing spa structure and a 21-foot non-bearing cosmetic screen wall extension.

Specifications for a minor 2-foot toe cut backed by a 12-inch French drain void (geotextile fabric, 4-inch perforated PVC pipe, and clean 3/4-inch drain rock) to eliminate lateral soil pressure against the cosmetic facade.

Backyard Property Line Glass Fence:

Non-structural 42-inch glass fence assembly replacing an old vinyl fence along the edge of the slope entirely within property lines (layout and material cut-sheet integration).

2. Required Deliverables
Structural Calculation Package: Complete engineering calculations covering dead/live loads, seismic/wind criteria, deck slab design, anchor dowel sizing, pier depths, header sizing, and retaining wall stability.

Stamped Construction Drawings (Plan Set): Ready for city permit submittal, including:

Foundation and framing plan.

Connection details for the epoxy dowels into the existing active masonry walls.

Details for the right-hand deep piers and post-and-beam framing.

Planter and light retaining wall reinforcement details.

Drainage and waterproofing integration details.

Revisions/Plan Check Support: Addressing initial structural review comments from the City of San Clemente Building Department if required.

3. Available Documentation for Engineer
Existing architectural/structural drawings (confirming active filled retaining wall construction on the left).

Site layout measurements and slope topography data (21-degree uniform slope, max 8.06 ft drop).
