I have eight concept sketches and full written briefs for a series of 20 cm figurative sculptures that communicate clear social messages. The visual language must be lifelike—accurate anatomy, expressive faces, convincing drapery and surface detail—because these pieces will sit in a gallery display, not a collectibles shelf.
What I need from you
• Translate each brief into a high-detail, print-ready 3D model (STL/OBJ or 3MF with colour/texture maps).
• Work with me to refine the narrative touches already in my descriptions so every pose, gesture and facial expression reads perfectly at this scale.
• Advise me in depth on materials, printers, colour finishing options and the cost-to-quality trade-offs so I can choose the most economical route without compromising the artwork. I’m looking for guidance on everything from resin versus full-colour powder to post-processing and sealing.
My preferred workflow
1. Blocking pass for overall proportion and pose—quick turn-round for feedback.
2. Mid-resolution sculpt showing anatomy, clothing folds and key details.
3. High-resolution pass with pores, fabric weave and other micro-details, followed by polypaint or vertex colour where applicable.
4. Final watertight, decimated model, split for printing with optimal wall thickness and supports already planned.
Acceptance criteria
• Human features remain crisp when printed at 8 inches.
• No unsupported overhangs beyond printer tolerances.
• Colour references match supplied Pantones or texture samples.
• File passes mesh integrity checks in Netfabb or similar.
Please include links or images of previous realistic, small-scale figurines or busts you’ve produced, outline your software stack (ZBrush, Blender, Substance, etc.) and give an estimated timeline for modelling each piece plus any production you can handle in-house. I’m ready to start as soon as I find the right sculptor.
