In short: you take home R4,350 a week before tax, for roughly 5 to 10 hours of work. That’s about R17,400 a month.Arrangement: remote freelance / independent contractor, long-term opportunity, starting with a paid 30-day trial Location: South African based only
ABOUT THE BUSINESSWe're a small but established Australian mortgage and commercial finance business. We go beyond transactional broking by helping clients look past interest rates to understand how debt structure and cash-flow management affect their financial position. We work with professionals, business owners, property investors and professional referrers, and we've invested heavily in our positioning, website, financial calculators and AI-assisted marketing systems.
THE ROLEWe're not looking for a traditional social media administrator. We need a part-time marketing manager who will own the process, rather than wait for instructions about what to post. Much of the research and first-draft content is already produced by an internal AI content system, built by our Credit / Operations Manager. She is strong on content and wording, but marketing isn't her role, so you'll need to take responsibility for distribution and for moving things forward. Separate technical support looks after our website and SEO. You'll work with the founder at first and then mainly with our Credit / Operations Manager. The founder provides strategic direction, financial insights and recorded video, and approves content before publication, with a short weekly meeting. A key aim is to reduce his day-to-day involvement in marketing administration.
What you'll do:
Own the marketing process and make sure things get done without being chased

Review and refine internally generated content

Monitor relevant financial developments, understand what they mean for our audience and propose how we can add something worthwhile to the conversation

Manage publishing and distribution across LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, Google Business Profile and other relevant channels

Edit our founder's videos and give practical direction on scripts and hooks, helping to make the content more engaging and human (our founder isn't a natural social media personality)

Develop and test targeted campaigns (email and other) for prospective clients, corporate employers and professional referrers

Identify underserved audiences, differentiated marketing opportunities and cost-effective ways to generate relevant enquiries

Track engagement, enquiries and campaign performance, with a weekly update and a monthly performance report

Initial output guide:
Around three quality content pieces per week

One to two founder-led videos per week, depending on what is recorded

We would rather have an experienced, efficient person doing fewer high-quality activities than lots of routine activity that doesn't generate results.
THE GOALOur aim is qualified business enquiries, not followers or posting frequency. We compete with banks and larger firms that spend far more on ads than we can, so recommending more ad spend won't work. We want real opportunities and practical thinking, not marketing jargon. You'll be measured on KPIs such as engagement from the right people and appointments booked for us to convert.
Requirements

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Essential:
Practical financial literacy: you understand the fundamentals of mortgages, interest rates, savings, household cash flow, managing debt and borrowing to buy property. For example, given a borrower with a $1 million mortgage and $100,000 in an offset account, you can see the financial implications and spot an engaging marketing angle

A genuine interest in banking, debt and personal finance. Having owned a home, had a mortgage or bond or managed debt in practice is an advantage, but it's not a requirement

Proven experience managing social media and digital content, with examples of actual campaigns and, where possible, the commercial outcomes

A commercial mindset and the initiative to work with minimal day-to-day direction

Short-form video editing skills (CapCut, Canva or similar)

Working knowledge of AI tools such as Claude and ChatGPT

Strong research skills and attention to detail

Experience with analytics and performance reporting

Excellent written and spoken English

A significant advantage:Experience marketing financial services or professional services

Desirable:
Experience creating content for Australian audiences

Experience with lead generation and email campaigns

You don't need to know the intricacies of the Australian mortgage market, bank lending policies or regulation. We'll provide that knowledge. Our internal team reviews the technical financial content and the founder approves substantive content before it's published.
WORKING ARRANGEMENTS
Remote, with a defined weekly scope and fee rather than payment purely for hours worked

You propose the hours you can reasonably allocate within the budget, provided the deliverables and responsibilities are clear. More time is likely in the initial setup phase

You don't need to be online throughout Australian business hours. Occasional meetings will be in the early evening Sydney time (morning in South Africa)

Occasional time-sensitive content, such as Reserve Bank announcements, will need to be planned for

We're open to increasing the hours or scope if we see a meaningful return

SUCCESS MEASURES
30 days: understand the business, review the existing systems, set up a workable content and campaign process and launch an initial targeted campaign

60 days: consistent execution, improved content quality, an established reporting process and early evidence of what generates engagement and enquiries

90 days: measurable progress in attracting qualified opportunities and a clear view of which channels and campaigns are worth continuing

We won't ask you to guarantee a number of loans or settlements, but we do want commercially sensible targets and accountability.
SELECTION PROCESS1. We review applications and interview two or three suitable candidates 2. We commission one small paid practical exercise from the preferred finalist, at a fixed fee agreed once the scope is clear. It will involve developing a targeted marketing campaign, identifying a small number of relevant prospects and showing how you'd turn one of our existing financial insights into compelling content 3. If we're satisfied, we start a paid 30-day trial at the agreed weekly rate and scope, before deciding whether to continue on an ongoing basis
HOW TO APPLYPlease include: 1. A brief overview of your relevant experience 2. Examples of actual campaigns you've managed and, where possible, the commercial outcomes achieved 3. The hours you could realistically allocate within the weekly budget, and your hourly rate 4. Your answer to the practical question below, in your own words Practical question: We help clients look beyond interest rates to understand how debt structure and cash-flow management can affect their financial position. Using a practical mortgage or debt-management example, explain how you would turn this into an engaging social media campaign that could attract qualified prospective clients. How would you distribute it, and how would you measure its success? Please don't submit a generic AI-generated answer. We're interested in your own thinking, financial understanding and commercial judgement.
