I own an otherwise sound vintage typewriter, yet its typing action feels sluggish compared with modern expectations. My sole aim is to enhance functionality—specifically the typing mechanism—so that it achieves noticeably faster stroke-to-print speed without compromising durability or the machine’s classic feel.

What I need from you
• Diagnose the existing key-lever, escapement and linkage timing, identifying every point that causes drag or delay.
• Engineer practical modifications—re-tensioning springs, refining linkage geometry, upgrading bushings, or suggesting new materials—that will cut the cycle time of a single key press.
• Supply clear technical documentation: annotated photos or CAD drawings of each proposed change, a parts list, and step-by-step implementation instructions that a competent technician can follow.
• Provide a brief test protocol so I can validate the improvement once the work is complete (e.g., target words-per-minute increase, repeatability after 500 keystrokes).

Scope notes
– The ribbon movement and paper feed system are performing adequately; please leave them untouched unless a minor adjustment directly benefits typing speed.
– I’m open to solutions ranging from subtle tweaks to custom-machined components, as long as the machine retains its original footprint and aesthetic.

If you have previous experience tuning mechanical keyboards, restoring typewriters, or reverse-engineering legacy machinery, your insight will be invaluable.
