Custom Women’s MTM Modest Dress & Skirt Design / Pattern Development

PROJECT OVERVIEW

I am looking for an experienced women’s fashion designer / pattern maker / garment developer to work with my business on custom Made-to-Measure (MTM) modest women’s dresses and skirts.

The concept is simple:

I provide a reference, photo, screenshot, link, existing garment, or description of what I want → you analyze it → develop the garment/pattern → make any required modesty and MTM adjustments → and prepare everything needed for production.

A significant part of this work will involve recreating or closely adapting existing styles from established clothing brands.

This is NOT primarily about designing completely original collections. I need someone who is excellent at looking at an existing garment and understanding how to recreate it professionally.

WHAT I WILL PROVIDE

Depending on the project, I may provide:

* Photos of an existing dress or skirt
* Screenshots or links from clothing brands
* Photos from multiple angles
* A physical garment/sample
* Measurements
* Fabric information or fabric photos
* Specific instructions about length, neckline, sleeves, fit, etc.
* Pictures of similar garments
* A simple description such as: “I want something like this.”

You need to be comfortable working from visual references and asking only the necessary questions to accurately reproduce the garment.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

1. RECREATE EXISTING GARMENTS

You should be able to look at a garment and understand its:

* Overall silhouette
* Pattern/construction
* Neckline
* Shoulder construction
* Sleeve construction
* Waist placement
* Skirt shape
* Seams and panels
* Pleats
* Darts
* Gathers
* Pockets
* Zippers/buttons
* Lining
* Fabric behavior
* Finishing details

The objective is to create a garment that closely matches the reference while making the necessary changes for our business and customers.

2. MODEST CLOTHING ADAPTATION

Many of the reference garments will need to be adapted for modest women’s clothing.

Possible modifications include:

* Higher necklines
* Longer sleeves
* Longer skirts
* Increased coverage
* Adjusted openings
* Modified back/neck construction
* Different sleeve shapes
* Appropriate lining
* Changes to garment proportions

The finished garment should still look fashionable, elegant and intentional, rather than simply appearing to be a non-modest garment that was extended or covered up.

MTM REQUIREMENTS

These garments will be made to individual customer measurements.

You should understand how to develop patterns that can accommodate different:

* Bust measurements
* Waist measurements
* Hip measurements
* Shoulder widths
* Back lengths
* Front lengths
* Arm lengths
* Arm circumference
* Height
* Body proportions
* Other relevant measurements

I need someone who understands the difference between making a standard-size garment and properly developing an MTM garment.

Fit is extremely important.

You should understand issues such as:

* Bust fitting
* Waist suppression
* Hip ease
* Shoulder balance
* Armhole fitting
* Sleeve balance
* Drag lines
* Excess fabric
* Front/back length
* Garment balance
* Different body proportions and postures

PATTERN MAKING

For each garment, depending on the project, I may need:

* Base pattern
* Individual garment pattern
* Pattern pieces
* Seam allowances
* Notches
* Grainlines
* Construction information
* Measurement specifications
* Grading where applicable

The final pattern must be professional and suitable for actual garment production.

Industry-standard digital files such as DXF, PDF, AI or another appropriate format are preferred, depending on your workflow.

TECH PACK / PRODUCTION INFORMATION

For garments going into production, I may also need a professional specification/tech pack containing relevant information such as:

* Garment measurements
* Construction details
* Fabric and composition
* Lining
* Trims
* Zippers
* Buttons
* Stitching
* Seam information
* Finishing
* Label placement
* Special construction instructions
* Measurement tolerances

The goal is for a manufacturer to clearly understand exactly what needs to be produced.

WORKING FROM BRAND REFERENCES

This is an important part of the project.

For example, I may send you a dress from an existing brand and say:

“I want this dress.”

I will provide whatever reference material is available, and I expect you to:

1. Analyze the garment.
2. Understand its construction.
3. Determine how it is likely patterned.
4. Recreate the design/pattern.
5. Make the required modesty modifications.
6. Adapt it for MTM.
7. Prepare the production specifications.

I am not looking for someone who simply traces an image.

I need someone who understands how the garment is constructed and why.

TYPICAL WORKFLOW

STEP 1 — REFERENCE

I send you a photo, link, screenshot, existing garment, or description.

STEP 2 — ANALYSIS

You analyze the garment, construction, silhouette and pattern requirements.

STEP 3 — MODIFICATIONS

I explain any required changes such as length, sleeves, neckline, fit, modesty, fabric or details.

STEP 4 — DEVELOPMENT

You create the pattern and relevant specifications.

STEP 5 — REVIEW

I review the work and provide corrections if necessary.

STEP 6 — FINAL FILES

You provide the finalized pattern/specifications ready to send to the manufacturer.

LONG-TERM WORK

I am looking for a long-term freelancer, not someone for only one garment.

If the relationship works well, I expect to continuously send new garments and references for development.

You should therefore be:
