I need a finance professional to dig into a series of monthly Income Statements and tell me one thing above all else: how profitable the business really is and why.
You will work only with the Income Statement—no Balance Sheet or Cash Flow work is required—and the goal is to evaluate profitability. I will deliver each month’s statement (PDF or CSV), and I’d like you to turn that raw data into an insightful, data-backed story.
Here’s what I expect:
• Build a clean, formula-driven workbook (Excel or Google Sheets) that lines up every month side by side.
• Calculate and graph key margins—gross, operating, and net—so trendlines are obvious at a glance.
• Run variance analysis month-over-month and against year-to-date averages.
• Produce a concise written summary (around 2–3 pages) that highlights drivers behind margin shifts, flags any anomalies, and offers actionable suggestions to improve profitability.
Acceptance criteria
• All numbers must reconcile with the original statements.
• Formulas stay transparent and editable; no hidden cells or hard-coded totals.
• Commentary references the calculated data directly and presents at least three clear, actionable insights on profitability.
Once I send the files, I’m hoping for a first draft within a week. Let me know if you have questions or need additional context, and feel free to suggest any additional tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) that could enrich the analysis.
