I’m looking for a clean, minimalist logo built around a monochrome palette. The mark should pair a distinctive icon with the brand name, keeping everything streamlined so it scales well from a favicon to large-format print.
Crosswise is a new independent newsletter.
The concept is simple: one important story, examined across different credible perspectives so readers can understand the issue rather than receive one partisan version of it.
Logo direction
I want CROSSWISE to be the dominant wordmark.
The identity should be:
* Bold and highly recognisable
* Modern, intelligent and editorial
* Serious enough for an international news publication
* Minimal rather than complicated
* Distinctive without looking like a tech/consulting company
* Effective in black and white, with the possibility of one accent colour
I particularly like strong condensed/custom typography and subtle geometric/angular treatments that can suggest crossing, opposing directions or different perspectives.
Please also explore a very simple standalone mark derived from the identity—potentially based around an intersection/cross/X—which can work as a favicon and social-media avatar.
Visual references
Please look at the branding and mastheads of:
* Tangle — simple, contemporary independent-media identity www.readtangle.com
* Semafor — bold, highly recognisable modern news branding www.semafor.com
* The Free Press — strong publication identity and typography www.thfp.com
These are references for the level of simplicity, confidence and media credibility, not designs to copy.
Deliverables
Please initially show 3 different concepts for:
1. CROSSWISE primary wordmark
2. Standalone icon/mark
3. Wordmark + icon combination
The final identity must work on a website masthead, newsletter, social avatar and favicon.
Once the concept is approved, I’ll need:
• Editable vector source files (.AI or .SVG)
• High-resolution PNGs on transparent background
• Black, white, and inverted variations
• A short usage guide noting safe space and minimum size
If you have examples of previous minimalist icons with integrated text, feel free to share them so I can gauge fit. I’m ready to move quickly and will provide prompt feedback throughout the process.
