### Hydrodynamic Modelling Validation Freelancer Required
I am looking for an experienced **hydrodynamic/coastal modelling freelancer** to assist with **model calibration and validation** for a marine/coastal modelling project.
The freelancer should have strong experience in **MIKE 21**, particularly in model calibration, validation, and statistical analysis.
### Scope of Work
* Review the existing hydrodynamic model setup and simulation results.
* Compare model outputs with **in-situ/current meter observations**.
* Perform calibration and validation of:
* **Current Speed (CS)**
* **Current Direction (CD)**
* **Water Level**
* Identify the main causes of discrepancies between modelled and observed data.
* Adjust/calibrate appropriate model parameters, boundary conditions, bathymetry, forcing, or other relevant settings where necessary.
* Re-run simulations and perform validation.
* Provide statistical validation results, including **RMSE and other relevant statistical indicators**.
* Provide a clear comparison between the observed and modelled results.
### Required Validation Targets
The final validated model should achieve:
* **Current Speed (CS) RMSE < 20%**
* **Current Direction (CD) RMSE < 20%**
* **Water Level RMSE < 10%**
The freelancer should also ensure that the validation methodology is scientifically appropriate, particularly for **current direction**, where circular/angular error should be handled correctly.
### Preferred Qualifications
* Proven experience in **hydrodynamic/coastal/ocean modelling**.
* Strong knowledge of **MIKE 21**.
* Experience with **model calibration and validation against field measurements**.
* Good understanding of tidal forcing, current velocity, bathymetry, boundary conditions, and hydrodynamic processes.
* Able to analyse Excel/CSV observational data and model outputs.
* Able to explain the reasons for model-observation discrepancies and recommend appropriate corrections.
Please provide **examples of previous modelling validation projects**, particularly projects where you successfully achieved acceptable RMSE values for current speed, current direction, and water level.
The main objective is not simply to calculate the RMSE, but to **calibrate and improve the model until the required validation criteria are achieved**, provided that the results remain physically and scientifically reasonable.
