Our new Midwestern nonprofit is gearing up for launch, and I need a warm, relatable yet professional online presence that champions our core mission: addressing community needs through changes to environmental constraints. This includes the built environment, walkability, movement, healthy nutrition, stress reduction, social cohesion, intergenerational activity, and more. I’m looking for one cohesive build that covers both a responsive website and a companion mobile app released simultaneously on iOS and Android.
The experience should echo the community-driven feel of initiatives like the Blue Zones Project while remaining distinctly ours. Visitors must be able to learn, engage, and take action without feeling overwhelmed.
Key functionality I’m counting on you to deliver:
• Recode existing multi-page website (developed using Perplexity) into Python and host it on WordPress.
• Information resources – a well-organized, searchable library of evidence-based articles, “how-to” guides, FAQs, and a regularly updated news-digest section that can pull in curated headlines automatically using a web scraping tool like Zotero or similar.
• Community forums – a moderated space where members can share stories, swap tips, and ask questions.
• Event calendar – public-facing listings plus an internal layer for volunteer scheduling.
• Feature articles & DIY content – easily updated by our staff through a friendly CMS.
• Simple payment/donation link connected to Stripe as the processor of choice.
• CRM integration to capture sign-ups, feedback, and volunteer interest in one place (currently none in use). Designer/developer should recommend and implement one that supports library, community, and events functionalities.
• Quick links out to the mobile app stores, social channels, Survey Monkey (or other recommended survey/voting site), and a feedback form.
Design tone: approachable Midwestern warmth with enough polish to reassure partners, funders, and researchers.
Additional notes: Cross-platform app development is preferred for ease of implementation across iOS and Android platforms. While Lovable was initially considered for app development, this will now rely on freelancer expertise due to bandwidth limitations. Data synchronization management is open to freelancer recommendations.
What I’ll consider a successful hand-off:
1. Website live on WordPress hosting platform, fully responsive and ADA-compliant.
2. Native or cross-platform app approved in both app stores, mirroring key site features and syncing data where relevant.
3. Clear documentation plus a brief walk-through so our small in-house team can post new content, update events, and manage users without developer intervention.
