We’re building the tools to measure soil carbon at scale. As our Finance & Grants Manager, you’ll secure funding for our research and keep our projects and financial reporting stellar.
About Seqana
Seqana builds digital tools for monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) of soil carbon. We combine satellite imagery, an extensive proprietary library of soil data, and machine learning to make soil carbon measurement accurate, cost-effective, and scalable.
Regenerative agriculture can store carbon in soils while improving soil health, water quality, food security, and biodiversity. Measuring that impact is often costly and complex. Our tools help project developers, agrifood companies, NGOs, and governments credibly quantify and report the results of regenerative agricultural practices.
We’re based in Berlin, backed by venture capital investors, and supported by public funding from ESA and DLR.
Aufgaben
As our Finance & Grants Manager, you’ll take ownership of public funding at Seqana, from finding the right programmes and writing applications to coordinating funded projects, reporting, and audits. You’ll also own the financial groundwork that keeps project costs traceable and company reporting reliable.
We run a soil carbon MRV project with the European Space Agency and report to EIT and Rentenbank. You’ll build on that work, developing a funding pipeline that fits our research and turning promising opportunities into strong applications.
You’ll report directly to Stefan, our CEO, and work alongside a fractional CFO who owns forecasting and controlling. You’ll work closely with our scientists, engineers, and colleagues in product and commercial roles. Our subject matter experts provide the technical content; you bring the work together, manage deadlines, AI-Powered knowledge banks and take applications and reports through to submission.
You’ll have room to improve how we coordinate projects, prepare our records, and meet our commitments to funders, investors, and the team. Space agencies, European research funding, and soil carbon: it’s an unusual combination, and a good one.
Grants and public funding
Manage our ESA project end to end: monthly progress reports, milestone reviews with our ESA officer, deliverable coordination, time tracking, and cost allocation. Our subject matter experts write the technical content; you own the process, deadlines, and submission.
Build and maintain a funding pipeline, score opportunities for fit and potential, and write the applications.
Own EIT reporting, EnHANCE requirements, and funder portals. Coordinate funder audits and keep the supporting records complete and ready for review.
External reporting and corporate affairs
Produce the reporting packs for our investors and Rentenbank using a consistent set of financial and project data.
Own the reporting calendar and coordinate contributions so submissions are complete and on time.
Coordinate shareholder resolutions, and notary appointments.
Financial operations
Prepare Bookeeping until hand of to our tax firm, with clear notes, correct tax codes, cost centres, and project allocations.
Run the monthly close together with our tax firm.
Manage SEPA mandates, AWV filings, and self-issued receipts, keeping documentation accurate and up to date.
Qualifikation
Experience with European public funding: ESA, EU framework programmes, EIT, national schemes, or comparable programmes. You know what a funder portal, a periodic report, and a cost claim look like from the inside.
You’ve written or substantially shaped successful funding applications.
Comfort with numbers and financial detail, including cost centres, tax codes, and reconciliations.
You plan around fixed deadlines and keep submissions accurate and on time.
You can bring together input from busy technical experts and keep work moving without being their manager.
Excellent communication skills in German and English.
Nice to have
Background in Drittmittelmanagement, Fördermittelmanagement, or kaufmännische Projektabwicklung, for example at a research institute, university, foundation, or consultancy.
Experience with audits by a funder or public auditor.
Familiarity with DATEV, Lexoffice, Pleo, or comparable tools.
Experience in a startup where you’ve built or improved the processes you work with.
Benefits
A committed, international team with flat hierarchies, working on a practical contribution to climate action.
The opportunity to shape a growing company in a role where your work is visible to everyone.
Direct collaboration with the CEO and leadership team.
Competitive salary and a permanent, full-time contract.
30 days of paid vacation.
€500 annual training budget.
Very flexible hours, home-office days, and a casual, pet-friendly office in Berlin-Kreuzberg.
Drinks, snacks, team events, and your choice of hardware.
Send us your CV and a short paragraph on a funding application or a funder report you’re proud of, and what made it work. No cover letter template needed. Write to us directly or apply here.
We want a workplace shaped by proactivity, authenticity, creativity, and empathy. Seqana is committed to equal opportunities for all applicants and team members, regardless of race, colour, ethnicity, sex, sexual identity, religion, or disability. If this role interests you but you’re not sure you tick every box, apply anyway.
