About the Role:
Hive Studios is looking for an experienced SketchUp Artist with advanced expertise in preparing and optimizing complex 3D models for real-world production use. This role will focus primarily on taking high-poly architectural models originating in 3ds Max and converting, cleaning, and optimizing them for efficient use within SketchUp.
The ideal candidate understands how to dramatically reduce model complexity while maintaining the visual and spatial integrity of large architectural environments. Our goal is to create streamlined, highly functional SketchUp files that perform reliably on lower-powered workstations without sacrificing the level of detail necessary for design and visualization.
What You’ll Do:
- Convert high-poly architectural models from 3ds Max into production-ready SketchUp files
- Clean up, simplify, and optimize complex geometry to significantly improve model performance
- Reduce polygon counts and file sizes while preserving important architectural and visual details
- Organize SketchUp models using efficient components, groups, tags, materials, and model structure
-
Troubleshoot geometry, materials, textures, and other issues that arise during model conversion
- Prepare large-scale architectural environments for smooth use on lower-powered workstations
- Work within Enscape for visualization and model review
- Collaborate with Hive's creative and production teams to ensure optimized models meet project requirements
What We’re Looking For:
- Extensive SketchUp Experience
- Demonstrated experience optimizing and cleaning up high-poly 3D models
- Strong proficiency in 3ds Max and experience transferring models between 3ds Max and SketchUp
- Strong familiarity with V-Ray
- Experience working in Enscape
- Deep understanding of polygon reduction, geometry optimization, textures, materials, components, and efficient model organization
- Experience working with large architectural spaces or complex architectural models
- Ability to balance visual fidelity with model performance
- Strong attention to detail and ability to diagnose and solve technical 3D-modeling problems independently
Freelance: 30 hrs/week
Rate: $45 - $50/hr
