We are an Australian technology hardware company looking for an experienced freelance PR / media relations specialist to help with occasional individual media opportunities.
We are specifically looking for someone who can execute a story from start to finish — not just provide PR strategy or consulting.
Typical work would include:
- Reviewing the raw story/case study and identifying the strongest media angle
- Writing/refining the press release and journalist pitch
- Identifying relevant Australian journalists and media outlets
- Directly pitching the story to journalists
- Following up with media
- Helping coordinate any resulting interviews, enquiries or coverage
The first project is likely to involve a case study about a deployment of approximately 50 technology kiosks for the Victorian Electoral Commission in Melbourne.
We would like someone who can assess the story, determine what angle could genuinely interest mainstream, business, technology or government media, and then actively pitch it.
This would be ad-hoc project work, probably a couple of opportunities per month when we have something genuinely newsworthy, rather than a full-time role or large monthly agency retainer.
Ideally you have:
- Strong Australian media relations experience
- Existing relationships with Australian journalists
- Demonstrated earned media placements
- Experience in technology, B2B, government, manufacturing or business stories
- A practical, hands-on approach to journalist outreach
Please include examples of media coverage you have personally helped secure and briefly explain how you would approach a story like the VEC example above.
