The core of StudyChina is live—React front-end, Firebase authentication, and a simple listing engine are already running—but the platform still needs the functionality that turns a basic directory into a true services marketplace.
Here is what I need built and cleanly integrated with the existing codebase:
• A user-generated reviews & ratings module. Students must be able to leave 1-to-5-star scores and a short text review for any service they book. Each provider’s average rating should update in real time and be queryable inside Firestore.
• In-app, real-time messaging. Once a student contacts a provider, the two should have a dedicated chat thread powered by Firebase (Cloud Firestore or Realtime DB—whichever you feel is leaner for this use case). Read receipts and push notifications via Firebase Cloud Messaging are important.
• Advanced service search. Filters for price, location, service category, and rating need to appear in the UI and translate into performant Firestore composite queries or Algolia (if you recommend that route).
Access control: students will have a distinct permission set that blocks them from creating paid listings or accessing admin dashboards, while providers and admins can keep the existing default roles for now. Please wire the new features to respect those constraints.
Tech stack to align with: React, TypeScript, Firebase Auth, Firestore, Cloud Functions, and Material-UI. Clean, well-commented code and Git commits that mirror each feature step are part of the acceptance criteria, together with a short README explaining any new environment variables or build steps.
