I’m putting together a small collection of short stories aimed at a young-adult audience and I want each piece to feel firmly grounded in drama while still carrying a jolt of suspense. Every story should revolve around ordinary people facing a turning-point moment—an accident, secret, or tough decision—that fundamentally alters the protagonist’s course and reveals something new about who they are.
Please weave these ideas through your narrative:

• Overcoming challenges
• Self-discovery
A length in the 400-800 word range would be about right, but I’m more interested in emotional punch and narrative clarity than an exact word count. Deliver your story as an editable document (Word or Google Doc is fine) and add a brief logline plus a few lines explaining where the suspense peaks and why it matters to the character. All work must be original and previously unpublished.
