My loose-housing shed for up to 50 dairy cows is already standing, floor and foundations finished. What I am missing is a practical, low-tech feeding setup I can build and start using right away.

I am leaning toward a manger-type arrangement with headlocks so each cow can eat comfortably and safely, and intend to feed the herd twice a day. If you believe a different approach—such as open troughs, portable feed bunks, or bucket lines—would solve problems I might not have foreseen, feel free to explain your reasoning, but the core proposal should centre on the manger with headlocks.

What I need from you
• A clear, dimensioned layout that fits inside the existing shed and allows safe cow flow.
• Recommended construction materials with pros, cons, and estimated quantities (locally available metal, treated timber, plastic inserts, etc.).
• Simple step-by-step build notes for my on-site team.
• Labour and cost estimates broken into major components so I can source or fabricate parts myself.
• Tips for keeping feed waste and cleanup time low during those twice-daily feedings.

If you can provide drawings in PDF/DWG along with a concise build manual, that will let me move straight to procurement and installation.
