Define Software Project Scope

I’m heading into a new software development initiative and want to start on solid footing. My main need is expert guidance to articulate a clear, bounded project scope and to translate that scope into concrete, measurable objectives.

Here’s what I expect from our engagement:
• A short discovery call where I outline the idea, stakeholders, constraints, and any pre-existing requirements.
• A written scope statement that captures boundaries, major features, out-of-scope items, key assumptions, and high-level dependencies.
• A set of SMART objectives that flow directly from the scope, each with success metrics I can track throughout development.
• Recommendations for next steps—such as backlog creation, resource estimates, or risk registers—so the project can transition smoothly into planning and execution phases.
