About this job
As a Customer Data Scientist you will sit within JUMO's Customer domain team and build a deep understanding of our customers, their behaviour, creditworthiness and affordability. Your outputs, from credit scores and affordability values to segmentations and behavioural features, are consumed by our portfolio teams. You will have a direct impact on the bottom line and work alongside a strong, collaborative team that relies on peer mentoring and continuous learning. This role will report directly to the Head of Data Science and Analytics.
You will
Analyse, transform, augment and build datasets to convert customer, financial and behavioural data into features and dimensions that allow us to more easily and accurately extract insights.
Use your coding skills to contribute to team tooling and automate processes, so that models and datasets can be consumed reliably in a self-service way by downstream teams.
Design and develop customer-level models, including credit scores, affordability, segmentation, churn and retention, and other behavioural models, that inform decisions across other teams
Analyse end user requirements to understand what our stakeholders, particularly the Portfolio and Portfolio Strategy teams, need, and translate those needs into deliverables you can support.
Derive and communicate insights to stakeholders across the business.
You will need
A bachelor's degree with a strong quantitative component (e.g. Economics, Physics, Engineering, Software engineering, etc.).
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a similar data science or analytics role, ideally in fintech or another data-rich environment.
Experience in at least two prior roles, ideally across two or more industries — we value the perspective that a range of backgrounds brings to the team.
Strong data wrangling skills using SQL and Python.
Strong modelling skills using sklearn, h2o, pytorch, etc
A collaborative mindset — you enjoy working closely with peers, sharing what you learn and learning from others.
An ability to interpret problems, and simplify them to their essentials.
The desire to innovate, be creative and work on challenging problems.
Comfort with basic software development practices such as git and version control, sufficient to produce reliable, self-serviceable outputs.
Bonus if you have
Experience working in fintech, specifically with lending products.
Experience working with cloud computing.
Personal projects you have worked on that you can showcase.
Experience building customer-level models such as credit scores, affordability, segmentation or churn/retention.
Experience in communicating complex concepts simply and clearly.
We ask a lot of each other at JUMO, but we give a lot too.
You will love
Collaborating with smart, engaging people in an inspiring work environment
Working for impact
Growing and learning continuously, with loads of encouragement and support
Boldly taking risks as we navigate new challenges
Flexible work practices enabling your best delivery
Being autonomous and empowered to lead
A stack of leading-edge technologies
Remote First You will be based in South Africa. We operate on a remote first working approach where working remotely is our default way of working. Our environment is designed to foster innovation and enable collaboration. We have co-working spaces available in Cape Town for collaboration and connection and for the use of those who value and want to work out of an office. You have flexibility where to work from, as long as you have access to a reliable connection and are set up to work remotely.
Diversity and Inclusion
At JUMO, we firmly believe that diversity strengthens our teams. We are dedicated to fostering an inclusive recruitment process that cultivates an environment where all individuals can be authentic, collaborate, and thrive.Originally posted on Himalayas
