Chartered Structural/Mechanical Engineer – Ongoing Design & Compliance Consultant
About Us
We are an Australian manufacturer of premium steel backyard play equipment marketed under the Funky Monkey Bars brand. Our products are manufactured from powder-coated pre-galvanised steel and are designed for residential and commercial use, with future expansion into additional international markets.
We are seeking an experienced Chartered Engineer to work with us on an ongoing consulting basis. We are looking to establish a long-term relationship with an engineer who can support new product development, with structural calculations, compliance documentation, and engineering advice as our product range evolves.
Scope of Work
The successful engineer will assist with:
Structural design calculations for new and existing play equipment models.
Verification of structural integrity and load capacities.
Review and optimisation of existing designs.
Engineering input during new product development.
Advice on material selection, connection design and structural detailing.
Preparation of engineering reports and supporting documentation.
Review of drawings and manufacturing details.
Assistance with risk assessments where required.
Support during product testing and certification.
Responding to engineering queries from certification bodies or testing laboratories.
Standards
Experience with the following standards is highly desirable:
EN 71 Parts 1, 2, 3 and 8 European Domestic Standards
EN 1176 Parts 1,2,7,8,9 and 10 European Commercial Standard
AS/NZS 8124-4 and 6 Australian Domestic Standards)
AS/NZS 4685 Australian Playground Equipment Standard
F1148 USA domestic Standard
F1147 USA commercial Standard
Knowledge of related European, UK, USA and Australian engineering and safety standards for children’s play equipment will be highly regarded.
Candidate Requirements Checklist
Applicants should meet the following criteria:
Professional Status & Qualifications
Chartered Engineer status CEng or equivalent
Degree in Mechanical, Structural or Civil Engineering
Chartered status in the UK and/or Chartered Professional Engineer CPEng in Australia or eligible for recognition
Technical Engineering Capability
Experienced with Solidworks.
Experience designing fabricated steel structures
Experience with welded steel structures and bolted connections
Ability to produce engineering calculations for certification purposes
Competence in finite element analysis FEA and/or hand calculations
Ability to review CAD models SolidWorks preferred but not essential
Compliance & Industry Experience
Experience with playground equipment, fitness equipment, or similar safety-critical products
Experience supporting CE, UKCA, or other international product compliance programs
Familiarity with EN 71, EN 1176, and/or AS/NZS 8124, AS/NZS 4685 standards
Communication & Delivery
Strong written English and technical reporting skills
Ability to work remotely and communicate effectively
