I need a focused C# add-in that taps straight into the Autodesk Revit API to automate rebar placement. The goal is simple: with a single command the plug-in should populate beams, columns, and walls with the correct bar sizes, counts, and spacing based on user-defined parameters or templates, saving the manual layout work our team currently performs.
Core workflow I have in mind
• User selects the structural elements (or the active view)
• A settings dialog lets them pick the bar family, cover, spacing rules, and any lap or hook options
• The routine then generates the bars, respecting host geometry, covers, and clashes, and updates instantly if the host member changes
Acceptance criteria
• Written in C# using Revit 2023+ API
• Clean, well-commented code delivered as a .dll and a reproducible Visual Studio solution
• Handles rectangular and round concrete sections for beams, columns, and typical wall panels
• Adds parameters so bars can still be scheduled, tagged, and quantified with native Revit tools
• No crashes or unhandled exceptions on typical production models
Please include a brief outline of your approach, past experience writing Revit add-ins, and an estimated timeline for the first test build.
