I will be running a two-day business conference in New Orleans (Loews New Orleans Hotel) in mid of Dec and need an extra set of hands on-site for all things technical. Your main responsibility is to make sure every presentation, microphone, projector, and hybrid-meeting link behaves exactly as planned, so speakers can focus on their content and guests enjoy a smooth experience.
The role is strictly local and part-time: you will be needed on location for two consecutive days (roughly 6–8 hours each day). Being comfortable in both English and Chinese is a strong advantage because several speakers and guests will prefer communicating in Mandarin.
What you’ll actually do
• Arrive ahead of doors opening to run a quick AV check with the venue’s in-house crew (projectors, screens, sound board, wireless mics).
• Set up laptops, HDMI switchers, clickers, and manage any live-streaming or Zoom connections.
• Stay available throughout the sessions to troubleshoot slides that won’t advance, adjust volume levels, or swap cables when a presenter’s computer acts up.
• Liaise between speakers, interpreters, and venue staff, translating brief instructions into Chinese when needed.
• Wrap up each day by powering down equipment and confirming that recordings have saved correctly.
Acceptance criteria
The event is considered fully supported when:
1. All AV gear is up and running 30 minutes before the first session.
2. No presentation is delayed due to technical issues longer than two minutes.
3. Recordings and streams are successfully captured and handed over at the end of Day 2.
If you have solid conference tech experience, speak Chinese comfortably, and live in or near New Orleans, I’d love to hear how you can help.
