I publish a small daily paper and need a desktop application that lets me do nothing more than open it, type my stories, drop in photos, and hit “Create.” From that single click the system must take over, flowing text articles, photos, and the occasional advertisement into a classic multi-column layout, paginating 4–8 pages automatically and exporting a press-ready PDF that looks like a traditional broadsheet.
Key points
• Content types: text articles, photos, and ads are all part of the mix, so the engine has to recognise each element, size it intelligently, and maintain visual hierarchy.
• Preferred environment: a lightweight desktop application (Windows or cross-platform) with an ultra-simple interface—think WYSIWYG fields for headlines, body copy, photo upload, and an “ad” placeholder.
• Layout logic: I do not want to tweak anything manually. Once content is entered, the software should analyse available space, pick the right column grid, balance headlines, wrap text around images, and keep everything neat and newspaper-authentic.
Deliverables
1. Installable desktop app (installer or portable folder).
2. Built-in automated layout engine with at least one clean, professional template I can reuse daily.
3. One-click generation of a high-resolution, CMYK PDF (print-ready with bleed marks).
4. Brief on-boarding guide or short screen-recorded demo showing the workflow.
Acceptance criteria
• I can produce a complete 4–8 page issue in under five minutes of hands-on time.
• PDF passes a pre-press check with no missing fonts or colour-space errors.
• All content elements remain editable within the interface for the next day’s edition.
I will supply a sample PDF of my current paper for design reference once you respond. If you have experience with tools like InDesign scripting, Scribus automation, LaTeX, or custom Python/PDF libraries, let me know—whatever stack you choose is fine as long as the result is 100 % hands-off for me.
