Amharic Audio Transcription Project
Budget / Salary$250–750
TypeFreelance project
LocationRemote

I have a collection of Amharic-language audio files that need to be transcribed into clear, well-formatted text. Everything is handled remotely, so you can work from anywhere in Ethiopia—or beyond—as long as you’re fluent in written and spoken Amharic.
The assignment, internally labelled “Project PW,” involves downloading each recording from a shared drive, transcribing it according to the style guide I’ll provide (verbatim, clean-verbatim, or summary depending on the clip), and uploading the finished transcript by the specified deadline. Audio lengths vary, and the subject matter ranges from everyday conversations to more formal discussions, so an ear for diverse speech patterns is important.
Deliverables:
• A separate, fully proofread transcript for every audio file assigned
• Consistent speaker labels and time-stamps whenever the guideline calls for them
• On-time delivery through our project portal, with any formatting issues resolved in advance
Acceptance criteria:
• 95 %+ word-level accuracy (I run random spot checks)
• Adherence to the style guide on capitalization, punctuation, and spelling
• File naming that matches the original audio ID
Strong familiarity with tools such as Express Scribe, oTranscribe, or similar is helpful, but if you’re comfortable transcribing directly in Word or Google Docs that works too. If you have previous transcription experience or can share a short Amharic sample, that will speed up onboarding.
I’m ready to start assigning files as soon as the right freelancer is in place, so let me know your availability and typical turnaround time for one hour of audio.
