We are seeking an experienced Industrial Automation / Mechatronics Engineer (preferably located in Albania, Kosovo, Greece, or Bulgaria for ease of travel) to lead a complete controls overhaul of a heavy-duty industrial CNC machine. We own a 1997 Reichenbacher 5-Axis Woodworking CNC
Machine currently running an obsolete Siemens control system. Our objective is to completely strip the old electronics and upgrade the machine to a modern Syntec CNC Controller and Yaskawa Servo Drives/Motors.We possess the complete, original technical documentation and electrical schematics from Reichenbacher in PDF format.
The chosen engineer will guide us through a structured, milestone-based process split into remote planning and on-site integration.Phase 1: Planning & Bill of Materials (BOM) — RemoteReview Schematics: Thoroughly analyze our existing Reichenbacher electrical and mechanical PDFs.Component Specification: Calculate and specify the exact models required for the upgrade, including the Syntec controller unit, Yaskawa servo drive capacities (kW/torque matching), power supplies, I/O modules, safety relays, and limit/proximity sensors.
Deliverable: A complete, ready-to-order Bill of Materials (BOM) so we can purchase the hardware.
Phase 2: Electrical Design & Engineering — Remote / HybridNew Wiring Diagram: Create a clean, updated electrical schematic mapping the new Syntec controller and Yaskawa drives to the machine's existing chassis, pneumatic valves, and 5-axis head.I/O Mapping: Define all input/output allocations for the tool changer, safety interlocks, and spindle controls.
Phase 3: Physical Installation & Wiring — On-Site (Albania)Cabinet Demolition: Safely decommission and remove the legacy Siemens controller, old drives, and obsolete wiring.Cabinet Assembly: Mount and wire the new Syntec controller, Yaskawa drives, breakers, and auxiliary components into the electrical cabinet based on the approved schematics.Sensor Integration: Replace or rewire end-stops, home sensors, and pneumatic control switches.
Phase 4: PLC Programming & Parameters Configuration — On-SiteSyntec PLC Customization: Program the Syntec PLC logic to handle machine-specific functions (e.g., tool changer carousel, dust extraction hood, lubrication cycles, pneumatic clamps).Drive Tuning: Configure and tune the Yaskawa servo drives for optimal acceleration, deceleration, and loop stability.
Phase 5: 5-Axis Calibration & Final Integration — On-SiteKinematic Setup: Configure the 5-axis machine kinematics within the Syntec system.RTCP Calibration: Perform precise Real-time Tool Center Point (RTCP) calibration to ensure accurate simultaneous 5-axis interpolation.Testing & Commissioning: Run test codes, verify safety circuits (E-stops), check tool changing sequences, and execute a final test cut.
Requirements for the Freelancer:Proven experience retrofitting or building 5-axis CNC machinery.Strong working knowledge of Syntec CNC controllers and Yaskawa servo systems.Ability to read complex industrial electrical blueprints (German manufacturing standards).Proximity to Albania: Must be willing and able to travel to our facility in Albania for the physical installation, programming, and final commissioning phases (Phases 3, 4, and 5).
