Job Purpose
The YouTube Long-Form Editor owns the end-to-end edit pipeline across two channels in The Scalable Company's orbit:

Roland Frasier (partner): 3-4 long-form videos per month, totaling 3–6 hours of finished content.

Ryan Deiss (CEO): 3-4 long-form videos per month, totaling 3–6 hours of finished content.

You're the person who turns hours of unstructured camera files into the kind of long-form videos that actually get watched: tight pacing, clean audio, deliberate B-roll, and structure that earns the viewer's attention all the way through.
Important context: Until now, both channels have been edited by an outside agency. You are not stepping into a polished in-house pipeline. You are stepping in to build it. The templates, the asset libraries, the project organization, the revision workflow, the feedback loops — none of that exists in-house yet. You'll be designing and refining those foundational systems alongside the Senior Content Strategist as you do the work.
This is a, strategic, hands-on craft role, and a system-building role. Success looks like videos that publish on time, hold retention above benchmark, require minimal revision rounds — and a documented edit workflow that any future team member could plug into.
Success in this role is measured by on-time publish cadence across both channels, average view duration, revision efficiency, the quality bar of every finished cut, and the durability of the workflows you build.
Critical Accountabilities

Own the long-form edit pipeline across both channels — taking raw footage to publish-ready cut for 3-4 Roland Frasier videos per month (~30 min finished length each) and 3-4 Ryan Deiss videos per month (~30 min finished length each).

Build the foundational in-house edit workflow from scratch — templates, asset organization, revision loops, feedback systems, project archiving. By month 3, the workflow should be documented well enough that a future team member could plug into it without a 4-week ramp.

Build and refine each channel's edit signature — pacing, B-roll usage, music/SFX choices, lower-thirds, transitions. Roland and Ryan have distinct voices and audiences. Your job is to make each channel feel unmistakably like itself.

Manage project files, asset libraries, and version control in Frame.io and Premiere — projects organized, archives clean, revisions clearly tracked so nothing gets lost or duplicated.

Direct your own creative decisions on cuts, pacing, and structure — bring the Senior Content Strategist a draft that's ready to evaluate, not a rough assembly that requires rebuilding.

Iterate fast on revision feedback — target is ≤2 revision rounds per video. You take notes well, ask the right clarifying questions before opening the project, and ship the next version quickly.

Watch the analytics on your own work — pull YouTube Studio retention curves on every published video and adjust future edits based on where audiences are dropping off.

What Success Looks Like

Videos ship on cadence across both channels, week after week, without the Senior Content Strategist having to ask "where are we" the day before publish.

Both Roland's and Ryan's channels have recognizable, distinct edit signatures — visibly improving quarter over quarter.

The in-house edit workflow is documented, organized, and durable — onboarding a junior editor or motion designer down the road would take no more than 2 weeks.

Revision rounds stay at 2 or fewer per video because your first draft already accounts for each channel's voice and the strategist's priorities.

Project files are clean, archived, and findable months later — no panic searches for a missing B-roll clip.

You proactively flag what's not working in the raw footage before spending hours editing around a problem.

KPIs / Success Metrics
Primary KPIs (Core Success Metrics)

On-Time Publish Rate: % of videos delivered publish-ready by the agreed-upon date (target: 95%+).

Output Volume: 6-8 finished long-form videos per month across both channels (3-4 Roland + 3-4 Ryan), totaling 6–8 hours of finished content.

Watch Time / Retention: Channel-wide Watch Time trends upward & 30s retention is improving over time.

Revision Rounds per Video: Average revision rounds before approval (target: ≤2).

Workflow Maturity: Documented and adopted in-house edit pipeline by month 3 — project organization standards, revision tracking, asset libraries, template projects, feedback loops.

Secondary KPIs

Editor Turnaround Time: Time from raw footage handoff to first-cut delivery.

Average View Duration: vs. channel baseline, trending up.

Audio Quality: Evaluated by the Senior Content Strategist on each publish.

Re-use Library Growth: Reusable templates, lower-thirds, transitions, and SFX organized for faster future builds.

Who You'll Work With
You'll report directly to our Senior Content Strategist — the person who owns the CEO's content strategy across every channel (long-form, short-form, podcast, the whole ecosystem).
This is someone who owns the content strategy and editorial calendar across every channel, directs every video shoot, and serves as the connective tissue that keeps every piece of content on-brand and on-cadence. They know exactly what good looks like, and they'll push you to do work you're proud of because they're protecting these channels as brand assets — not just content outputs.
If you want to be told what to do down to the cut, this isn't the seat. If you want a strategic partner who will give you real creative latitude and real creative feedback, this is exactly the seat.
You'll also collaborate directly with both Ryan Deiss (CEO) and Roland Frasier (partner) — sometimes on creative direction for upcoming videos, sometimes on feedback for what you've already cut. Bring your point of view. We're not hiring you to push buttons. We're hiring you to help us build a channel.
Requirements

3+ years of full-time experience editing long-form YouTube content (15+ minute videos), with a portfolio of at least 5 published long-form edits where you were the primary editor.

Comfortable building systems from scratch — you've been the first editor at a place before, or you've built your own pipeline in a freelance or agency-spinoff context. You don't need a pre-existing template library to be productive. You create the templates.

Strong motion graphics and animation proficiency — every video we ship needs polished animated B-roll, kinetic typography, data visualizations, and motion design that elevates the storytelling. This is not occasional polish — it's a core deliverable on every video. We don't ship cuts that look like uncut interviews with lower-thirds slapped on.

Expert-level Davinci Resolve Studio or Adobe Premiere Pro proficiency — multicam, nested sequences, audio mixing, color correction, and proxy workflows. You do not need to learn this on the job.

Strong audio engineering instincts — you know how to use EQ, compression, and noise reduction to make dialogue sound clean without making it sound processed.

Demonstrated storytelling instinct — your portfolio shows you understand pacing, narrative structure, and how to keep a viewer watching past the 3-minute mark.

Frame.io (or equivalent review tool) proficiency — you know how to organize project assets, run a clean revision loop, and keep version history sane.

Self-managing on deadlines — you don't need a project manager. You see the publish calendar, you back-time the work, and you deliver.

AI fluency — you use AI tools daily (Opus 5.5 for Motion Graphics, Premiere AI features, transcription, B-roll search, etc.) to move faster and test more. This is a competitive advantage we expect on Day 1.

A workstation capable of editing 4K ProRes footage without performance issues — we'll cover software, plugins, and asset libraries, but you provide the machine.

Strong written communication — you give and receive feedback in writing without drama. You can read a revision note and ask the right clarifying question instead of guessing.

Nice to Haves

Color grading chops in DaVinci Resolve or experience with high-end Lumetri work.

Experience editing for a founder or CEO person brand channel in the B2B or entrepreneurship niche — you understand the difference between editing for a corporate brand and editing for a person and actively follow some of the bigger names in the space.

Comfort cutting clips for short-form repurposing (Reels / Shorts / TikTok) — even if it's not your primary deliverable.

YouTube Studio analytics fluency — you can pull a retention graph and tell us what story it's telling.
