I have roughly 75 historical images earmarked for a nonfiction book on World War II. For each photo I need a concise, defensible answer to one question: “May I legally reproduce this in my manuscript?”

Some images arrive with clear provenance—archive links, government collections, or museum catalog numbers—while others float around the internet with no obvious source. Your task is to dig into both kinds, confirm whether the image is in the public domain, distributed under Creative Commons, or released under any other genuinely royalty-free license, and spell out any lingering restrictions (attribution wording, non-commercial clauses, model/privacy issues, etc.).

All findings should be logged in a spreadsheet (Excel preferred). For every photo I will provide the file and you will return:
• the verified copyright status (public domain, CC BY-SA 4.0, etc.)
• a link or citation to the authority that proves that status
• a note on required attribution language or usage limits
• any red flags—unknown author, possible trademark, publication embargo, or privacy concerns

I expect clear, well-sourced notes so that years from now I can still show an editor exactly where each determination came from. Familiarity with resources such as the U.S. Copyright Office catalog, Europeana, Wikimedia Commons license pages, and reverse image tools (TinEye, Google Images) will be essential.

Accuracy and traceable documentation matter more than speed; however, if you have handled similar clearance projects before, let me know your typical turnaround.
