I’m creating a preschool picture book that makes numbers and counting come alive for children aged 3-5. I already know the look and feel I’m after—bright, friendly, and rhythmical—so what I need from you is the complete manuscript that will anchor the visuals.
Please weave an educational storyline that naturally introduces the numbers 1-10 (or another logical range you recommend for this age). The narrative should be simple enough for a read-aloud, yet engaging enough for little listeners to participate, repeat phrases, and anticipate what comes next. Think bouncing cadence, clear progression, and plenty of opportunities for interactive counting.
I will handle the artwork separately, but I’d like you to include light illustration notes so the illustrator can see where the visual focus shifts page by page. A gentle moral or positive theme is welcome, but the core learning objective is Numbers and Counting; no need to tackle alphabet, colors, or shapes in this story.
Deliverables (acceptance criteria)
• 500-700-word manuscript, structured for 20-24 picture-book pages
• Short title, back-cover blurb, and one-sentence elevator pitch
• Page-by-page illustration notes (brief, not art-directing)
• One round of revisions after my initial review
If you have experience writing for early childhood, especially with rhyming or participatory text, I’d love to read a short sample or link. Let’s give young readers a joyful first step into numbers together.
