WordPress Restructuring & SEO Preservation

I am looking for an experienced WordPress developer with strong SEO/technical SEO experience to work on an existing website.

The project is confidential, so the brand name, domain and client identity will be shared only with the selected freelancer.

The existing brand and domain will remain unchanged. The main objective is to reposition the website professionally, restructure its content and navigation, and remove the current professional terminology throughout the website, while protecting the existing SEO value and Google rankings as much as possible.

Scope of Work

1. Website restructuring

Update the main navigation/menu

Restructure the existing pages

Implement several new/updated pages based on content that will be provided

Ensure correct H1/H2/H3 structure

Ensure fully responsive display across desktop, tablet and mobile

2. Website-wide content/terminology update
A specific professional terminology currently used throughout the website needs to be completely removed and replaced with new terminology.

This needs to be checked across:

Pages

Blog posts where relevant

Page titles

Headings

Menus

Footer

Site Title / Tagline

SEO Titles

Meta Descriptions

Open Graph/social sharing data

Schema/structured data

Image ALT/title attributes

WordPress/plugin fields

Any other location where the old terminology may exist

A full website-wide audit is expected rather than simply changing the visible text.

3. SEO preservation
SEO is a major part of this project.

The freelancer should audit the existing URL structure and ensure that changes do not unnecessarily damage the website's existing Google presence.

This includes:

URL audit

Existing indexed pages

301 redirects

Sitemap

robots.txt

Canonical URLs

Internal links

Broken links

404 errors

Meta titles/descriptions

Schema/structured data

Google Search Console

Indexing status

Where URLs are changed or removed, appropriate 301 redirects must be implemented.

4. Old/unused pages
The website may contain old or unused pages that are still published and/or indexed by Google.

The freelancer should identify these pages and provide a list/recommendation before anything is deleted.

For each relevant URL, please indicate whether you recommend:

Keeping it

Updating it

Redirecting it

Removing it

No potentially valuable indexed page should be deleted without approval.

5. Google Search Console
After implementation:

Check the current Search Console setup

Submit/update the sitemap

Check indexing

Request indexing for the main updated pages where appropriate

Check for coverage/indexing issues

Verify that the old professional terminology is gradually replaced in Google's indexed results

6. Backup
A complete backup must be taken before any work begins, including the WordPress files and database.

The existing website must be recoverable if something goes wrong during the implementation.

Updates should be handled carefully to avoid breaking the existing website.

Content

The client will provide the final copy for the main pages.

The freelancer will be responsible for implementing the content correctly within WordPress, including structure, headings, responsive layout and SEO-friendly setup.

This is not simply a copy-editing project.

I am looking for someone who can handle the combination of:

WordPress development + website restructuring + technical SEO + URL/redirect management + Google Search Console.

The existing website already has an established online presence, so SEO preservation during the transition is extremely important.
