WooCommerce–Authorize.net Expert

Contract / Project-Based | Remote | Immediate Need

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced WooCommerce–Authorize.net Expert to diagnose, repair, configure, test, and document a secure, reliable payment workflow for our WordPress/WooCommerce site. The immediate priority is resolving potential plugin conflicts, validating sandbox and production transactions, and ensuring that payments, refunds, invoices, and WooCommerce order statuses function correctly. The ideal consultant can work independently, protect sensitive payment credentials, communicate clearly with business and technical stakeholders, and minimize disruption to the live website.

Key Responsibilities

Audit the current WordPress, WooCommerce, Authorize.net, theme, hosting, SSL, and plugin configuration.
Reproduce and diagnose checkout, payment, invoice, refund, order-status, and integration issues using logs and controlled testing.
Identify plugin, theme, caching, security, webhook, API-credential, or environment conflicts and implement durable fixes.
Configure the appropriate WooCommerce Authorize.net gateway for sandbox and production environments, including API Login ID, Transaction Key, Signature Key, and Client Key where applicable.
Configure and validate credit-card and, if required, eCheck processing; authorization versus capture; voids; full and partial refunds; saved payment methods through Customer Information Manager (CIM); and recurring payments.
Implement and test Authorize.net webhooks so transaction events are accurately reflected in WooCommerce.
Validate Accept.js or the applicable Accept solution to reduce payment-data exposure and support PCI-conscious checkout practices.
Review Advanced Fraud Detection Suite settings, AVS/CVV handling, duplicate transaction controls, and customer-facing decline/error messages.
Confirm compatibility with the current WooCommerce checkout experience, required extensions, and any CRM, invoicing, subscription, tax, email, or fulfillment integrations.
Create and execute test cases for successful, declined, held, duplicate, canceled, refunded, and recurring transactions.
Coordinate a low-risk maintenance window when production testing or plugin isolation is required, with backup and rollback procedures.
Document configuration, changes, test evidence, known limitations, credential-rotation steps, and ongoing maintenance recommendations.
Provide knowledge transfer and short-term post-launch support.
Required Qualifications

Demonstrated experience implementing and troubleshooting WooCommerce payment gateways in production.
Strong hands-on expertise with Authorize.net APIs and merchant configuration, including API credentials, Accept.js/Accept Hosted, CIM, webhooks, refunds, and fraud controls.
Advanced WordPress and WooCommerce development skills, including PHP, JavaScript, hooks, filters, REST APIs, logs, and database-aware troubleshooting.
Proven ability to isolate plugin/theme conflicts without compromising a live store.
Working knowledge of SSL/TLS, secure credential handling, PCI DSS scope reduction, backups, staging environments, and deployment rollback.
Experience with WooCommerce Subscriptions and payment tokenization.
Ability to explain root causes, risks, and remediation steps to nontechnical stakeholders.
Strong written documentation, attention to detail, responsiveness, and availability for time-sensitive testing.
Preferred Qualifications

Five or more years of WordPress/WooCommerce development or administration experience.
Three or more years of direct Authorize.net integration and troubleshooting experience.
Experience with WooCommerce Cart and Checkout Blocks, accounting workflows, CRM integrations, and professional invoice/payment-link workflows.
Familiarity with WP-CLI, Git, staging/deployment workflows, observability tools, and managed WordPress hosting.
Relevant WooCommerce, WordPress, security, or payment-platform certifications are a plus.
Expected Deliverables

Written technical assessment identifying the root cause, risks, and recommended solution.
Stable Authorize.net configuration in sandbox and production.
Completed end-to-end test matrix with documented results.
Verified WooCommerce order-state synchronization for approved, declined, held, canceled, voided, and refunded transactions.
Confirmed invoice and secure payment-link workflow that displays approved company information and branding within supported settings.
Deployment notes, rollback plan, administrator guide, and handoff session.
Defined post-launch monitoring and support period.
Success Measures

Successful test and live transactions without duplicate charges or unexplained failures.
Accurate order-status updates and reconciliation between WooCommerce and Authorize.net.
Successful full and partial refund testing.
No critical plugin conflicts or checkout regressions after deployment.
Clear documentation enabling internal staff to operate and support the integration.
Engagement Details

This is a remote, project-based engagement with the potential for ongoing support. Some work may need to occur during an agreed evening or early-morning maintenance window to limit customer impact. The selected expert must provide a realistic estimate, milestone schedule, dependencies, and rate before work begins. Production access will be limited and managed according to least-privilege practices.
