I’m commissioning a brand-new desktop application that must install and run natively on both Windows and Linux. My priority is a unified, maintainable codebase with a polished user interface that feels completely at home on each platform.

You’ll start by recommending the most suitable toolkit or framework—Qt, .NET Core, Electron, GTK, or another actively maintained option—explaining why it balances performance, distribution ease, and long-term support. Once we agree on the stack, we’ll move through architecture design, an MVP with the core feature set, a refined production build, and finally a full hand-over that includes source code, build scripts, installation packages (an .exe installer for Windows and distro-friendly packages or AppImage for Linux), plus concise developer documentation.

Success is defined by:
• Seamless installation on current Windows and major Linux distributions
• Consistent functionality and UI behavior across both operating systems
• Clean, well-commented code that compiles without proprietary dependencies
• A short walkthrough document so my in-house team can extend the app later

When you reply, highlight previous cross-platform desktop projects, the toolkit you’d propose, and an estimated timeline for each milestone so we can get started right away.
