I’ve just put the finishing touches on “Seven Ate Nine: A Mystery Where the Numbers Don’t Add Up,” and now I’m ready to turn the finished manuscript—and a fully-fleshed Character Bible—into a vibrant children’s picture book. Every number character already has a design, colour scheme, and personality; Number Town and the key scenes are sketched out conceptually. What I need is a professional illustrator who can respect these foundations yet infuse them with your own cartoonish, whimsical flair.
The project calls for full-page and double-page spreads, complete backgrounds, and plenty of tiny visual clues for kids to hunt down on each read-through. I’m keen to hear how you normally tackle a complete picture book: your creative process, typical timeline, revision cycle, and the range of final file types you supply for print and digital formats. Please also outline how you handle commercial and print rights.
To help us both gauge scope, here’s what I envisage handing over to you and receiving back:
• You’ll receive: the polished manuscript (roughly 900 words), the Character Bible with colour references, and rough scene descriptions.
• I’d like back: finished print-ready spreads (CMYK, 300 dpi), layered source files, and a separate set optimised for e-book distribution, all with full commercial usage rights.
If this sounds like a world you’d enjoy illustrating, let’s discuss pricing structures, milestones, and scheduling so we can bring Number Town to life together.
