We run Xplooreze, a website (not an app) connecting students and tutors for live online tutoring sessions. We need to solve two problems:
Tutors and students sometimes miss sessions because they have no way to check "is the other side here/online" or reach each other if something changes.
We do not want to expose either party's phone number or email to the other — all contact must happen inside our website.
We need a booking-scoped chat + call feature, similar to how Freelancer.com or Upwork handle client-freelancer communication on their website: a single panel per booking with a text chat thread and audio/video call buttons, with no personal contact details ever shown.
Scope of work:
Chat thread tied to each booking/session (not a general inbox) — text messages + file/image attachment support.
Audio + video calling, fully inside the browser — no phone numbers or external apps involved.
Identity masking: only a display alias (e.g. first name or "Tutor #1234") is shown to the other party — never phone number, email, or full profile.
Time-windowed access: chat and call are only active from ~30 minutes before the scheduled session start to a couple hours after it ends. Outside this window, the thread should be locked/archived.
Presence indicator: simple "online / waiting to join" status in the chat header, so each side can see if the other has shown up before the session time.
Email/SMS/browser notification when a new message arrives or a call comes in (existing notification system can be reused if we have one — will share details).
Deliverables:
Working chat + call feature integrated into our existing website
Source code with clear documentation
Nice to have (optional, can quote separately):
No. of attendees from 1 to multiple can be decided by admin
Screen sharing during calls
Call/chat history retained for dispute resolution by our support team
Please include in your proposal:
What technology/SDK you'd recommend for this and why
Your estimated timeline and cost
Examples of similar website chat/call features you've built before
