360° VR Film Producer / Editor – Virtual Travel Content
We are looking for an experienced 360° video producer/editor to help us create short, high-quality Virtual Travel experiences for playback on standalone VR headsets.
We will provide:
- Raw 360° video footage
- A completed script or narration guide
- Direction on the destination, story and intended experience
- Branding and any supporting assets required
Your role will be to turn this material into polished 2–10 minute VR travel episodes that are engaging, comfortable to watch and technically prepared for playback on VR headsets.
About the project
The Turnstyles is a Scottish social enterprise delivering facilitated Virtual Travel experiences for older adults, people living with dementia and others who may face barriers to travel.
Our aim is to create immersive experiences that allow someone to visit a location, look around naturally and feel a genuine sense of being there.
Content may include:
* Scottish landscapes and landmarks
* Historic locations
* Towns and cities
* Coastal and countryside experiences
* Museums, attractions and cultural locations
* Travel experiences from further afield
The style should be calm, natural and immersive rather than fast-paced or heavily edited.
What we need
We are looking for someone who can take responsibility for the complete post-production process, including:
* Reviewing and organising raw 360° footage
* Selecting the strongest footage and viewpoints
* Editing scenes into a coherent 2–10 minute experience
* Stitching or correcting 360° footage where required
* Horizon levelling and stabilisation
* Colour correction and grading
* Cleaning up visible stitching artefacts where reasonably possible
* Removing or minimising unwanted tripod/nadir areas where appropriate
* Adding titles, captions or simple graphics where required
* Adding and mixing narration supplied by us
* Adding suitable ambient sound or music where agreed
* Managing transitions carefully to reduce discomfort in VR
* Rendering/exporting the final programme in the correct equirectangular 360° format
* Ensuring appropriate 360° metadata is retained or injected
* Optimising the finished file for reliable playback on standalone VR headsets
We currently use PICO VR headsets so experience preparing content for devices such as PICO, Meta Quest or similar standalone headsets would be particularly useful.
Deliverables
For each episode we would normally expect:
1. A completed **2–10 minute 360° VR film**
2. Final high-resolution VR-ready master
3. Playback-optimised version suitable for standalone VR headsets
4. Correct 360° metadata and projection format
5. Clean audio mix including narration
6. One or two reasonable revision rounds
7. Project/source files where agreed
We would expect the finished content to retain as much image quality as possible while remaining practical for headset playback.
Experience working with 5.7K, 6K or 8K 360° footage, equirectangular video, H.264/H.265 encoding and VR-specific export workflows would therefore be advantageous.
Who we're looking for
Please apply if you have demonstrable experience with:
* 360° video editing
* VR video production
* Equirectangular 360° workflows
* Adobe Premiere Pro / After Effects, DaVinci Resolve or equivalent
* Insta360, Kandao, GoPro MAX or similar 360° footage
* VR headset playback and testing
* Stabilisation and horizon correction
* Colour grading
* Audio editing and narration
* Exporting high-resolution VR video
An understanding of comfortable VR filmmaking is particularly important. We want someone who understands that editing for a headset is different from editing conventional flat video — camera movement, cuts, transitions, pacing and viewer orientation all need to be considered carefully.
Ongoing work
This is not intended to be a single film.
We are beginning to build a library of Virtual Travel experiences and would ideally like to develop a relationship with a producer/editor who can work with us on an ongoing freelance basis.
Initially, we would probably commission a small number of episodes to establish the workflow, quality standards and technical format before expanding production.
When applying
Please include:
* Examples of 360° or VR video work you have personally edited
* Details of the software you use
* Your experience preparing video specifically for VR headsets
* The maximum 360° resolution you normally work with
* Whether you can handle stitching/correction as well as editing
* Your typical turnaround time for a 5–10 minute finished VR film
* Your approximate price per completed episode, or preferred pricing structure
Please also briefly explain how you would take raw 360° footage and a supplied script through to a finished headset-ready VR experience.
We are particularly interested in finding someone who combines technical VR expertise with good storytelling judgement and understands that the finished experience needs to feel natural, engaging and comfortable for the person wearing the headset. Our episodes are designed to feel calm, gentle and enjoyed from a seated position - with little or no movement of the camera in the scene; reducing the risk of nausea.
