We are seeking a **U.S.-based freelance publicist/PR consultant** for a focused launch campaign for a book written by my 16-year-old daughter.
The book is being published by **Macmillan India** and will launch simultaneously in **India, the U.S. and UK on November 9, 2026**, in hardcover and Kindle editions.
The book focuses on **AI and its implications for Generation AI/Gen Z**, particularly teenagers and young adults.
My daughter is a high school student at **Madeira School in McLean, Virginia**. She previously spent several years in India, giving the book and author a cross-border perspective. We believe there is a strong U.S. story around a teenager writing about how AI is affecting her own generation.
## Existing support
Macmillan India is handling its publisher-side publicity and media outreach in India.
Our India-based marketing team is separately handling the author's Instagram, LinkedIn, content creation and other digital marketing.
**This role is therefore specifically focused on U.S. earned media, publicity, relationships and audience development.**
We are NOT looking for social-media management, content creation, paid advertising or generic digital marketing.
## Key deliverables
- Develop a focused U.S. media and publicity strategy for the author and book.
- Develop a targeted list of relevant U.S. journalists, podcasts, educators, youth/Gen-Z media, technology/AI media and other potential partners.
- Conduct personalized outreach and follow-up to relevant contacts.
- Pursue podcast interviews, media interviews, speaking opportunities and school/education opportunities.
- Develop and execute a concentrated publicity campaign around the November 9 launch.
- Leverage the author's connection to Madeira School and the Washington DC/Northern Virginia community.
- Pursue relevant AI/technology, education, youth/Gen-Z and Indian-American media opportunities.
- Coordinate advance outreach and launch-week opportunities where appropriate.
- Continue media and podcast follow-up through mid-December.
- Provide brief weekly updates covering outreach undertaken, responses, opportunities generated and next steps.
We would particularly value someone who already has **strong U.S. journalist, podcast, education or technology-media relationships**.
We welcome your recommendations on the specific U.S. media, podcasts, schools, organizations and individuals that you believe would be strongest targets for this particular author and book.
## Primary objective
The goal is to establish my daughter as a **credible young Gen-Z voice on AI** while generating meaningful U.S. media coverage, podcast appearances, school/community exposure and awareness around the November 9 launch.
We are looking for **highly targeted and personalized outreach**, rather than broad press-release distribution.
We do not expect guaranteed media placements, but we would like to see a clear, measurable outreach program and regular reporting on activity and results.
## Timeline
**Mid-October through mid-December 2026**, with the greatest intensity during the two weeks before and two weeks after the November 9 launch.
## Budget
**Up to $5,000 USD total for the entire engagement.**
We are open to a fixed project fee or another structure you recommend, provided the total engagement remains within this budget.
## Ideal experience
Experience in one or more of the following would be particularly valuable:
- Technology / AI
- Gen Z / youth
- Education
- Nonfiction books
- Podcast outreach
- Author publicity
- U.S. media relations
- Washington DC / Northern Virginia
- New York media / publishing
