Undefined — 2D Animated Short Film

Undefined is a 4–5 minute independent animated short film with no spoken dialogue. The story follows a cartographer who lives in a perfectly ordered map-world where everything is labeled, measured, and controlled. When he is sent to investigate a mysterious blank space at the edge of the map, he discovers a vibrant, imaginative world beyond certainty—one filled with color, creativity, and freedom. As he explores this unknown space, he gradually transforms and begins to question whether everything truly needs to be defined.

The film will use a stylized, hand-drawn 2D aesthetic with visible pencil lines, map-inspired designs, minimalist characters, and strong visual storytelling. Sound design will play an important role, using elements such as pencil scratches, paper creaks, erasures, and ambient effects to help tell the story.

We’re looking for artists who can help create a visually distinctive short that blends traditional map illustrations with imaginative, organic environments. Experience with 2D animation, hand-drawn styles, visual storytelling, and atmospheric animation is preferred.
