Project Title: UK & Irish Horse Racing Historical Data Collection –from 1st January 2025 till the 18th August 2026 from At-the-races WebsiteI am looking for an experienced freelancer to collect 12 months of historical horse-racing results and performance data for a horse-racing analysis application I am developing.
We already have a working system and browser-extension workflow for collecting current daily data. I now need someone to work backwards through approximately 12 months of historical racing and collect the same information consistently for every available race.
Racing required
• UK Flat racing
• UK National Hunt / Jumps racing
• Irish Flat racing
• Irish National Hunt / Jumps racing
For each race/meeting I need all available information from the results and performance pages, including:
Full race result
Date
Course
Race time
Race name
Distance
Going
Class where available
Horse
Finishing position
Winner
Starting price / SP
Non-runners
F / UR / PU / RO / SU / etc. accurately identified
Jockey
Trainer
Race winning time where available
Sectional Times
The actual individual sectional times for each horse
All available sectional splits
Overall/finishing time
These must be collected as the actual times, not estimated from MPH.
Sectional Tools / Speed Data
Average sectional MPH
Best/fastest sectional MPH
Top speed MPH
Final speed MPH
Finish percentage / finishing-speed information where available
Any other speed/efficiency measurements supplied on the page
Pace Analysis
All available pace information
Running/pace style
Leader/front-running information where available
Prominent / midfield / held-up / rear information where available
Race pace assessment
Stride Data
Stride length
Stride frequency
Any other available stride measurements
Jumps Data – National Hunt only
Jumping performance data
Jump loss / speed lost at obstacles
Jump fluency
Jump consistency
Any available individual obstacle/jump measurements
IMPORTANT: These are separate datasets. I do not want someone to combine or estimate missing information. For example, Sectional Times and Sectional Tools are different pages/data sources and both must be captured when available.
The data is required for an adaptive-learning horse-racing database, so accuracy and consistency are much more important than speed.
We will use the historical information to establish benchmarks by:
Course × Distance × Going × Race Type × Winning Time × Sectional Performance × MPH × Pace × Stride × Jumping Performance.
Eventually this will allow us to compare today's runners against historical performances under equivalent racing conditions.
File/data format
I will provide examples of the files/data we currently collect and explain our existing browser-extension workflow. The successful freelancer will be expected to reproduce the same structure for the historical data so that it can be imported into our existing Greyfriars Horseracing Ratings Pro application.
Where appropriate I also want the original source JPEG/screenshot or captured source evidence retained, so individual records can be checked if necessary.
Quality-control requirements
The freelancer must correctly distinguish completed runners from:
NR = Non Runner
F = Fell
UR = Unseated Rider
PU = Pulled Up
RO = Ran Out
SU = Slipped Up
WD = Withdrawn
These horses must not accidentally be treated as winners, fastest horses or top-performing horses because of missing/zero data.
Abandoned races should be clearly recorded as ABANDONED, not as missing results.
Before awarding the full project
I want the freelancer to complete a small paid test first.
I will supply one UK Flat meeting and one UK Jumps meeting/date. Please collect the complete information for those meetings using the required format.
I will import the test files into my application and check:
Results → Sectional Times → Sectional Tools → Pace → MPH → Stride → Jumps
If everything imports correctly and matches the source information, I will award the full 12-month project.
Please do not apply simply saying you can do web scraping.
In your proposal please explain:
Your experience collecting structured sports or horse-racing data.
Whether you understand UK and Irish horse-racing terminology.
Whether you can work with browser extensions / Chrome developer tools if required.
Whether you can provide structured JSON/CSV/data files rather than only spreadsheets.
How you would quality-check approximately 12 months of racing.
How you would handle missing data, non-runners, fallers, unseated riders and abandoned races.
Your proposed price for the initial test and then the complete 12-month project.
Do not quote for the entire project unless you are prepared to complete the test first.
