# UI/UX Designer for Virtual Synth & Music Software
**Freelance / Contract | Remote**
We’re looking for an experienced **UI/UX Designer** to design the interface for a new desktop music software product.
This is a **design-only role** — no coding or software development is required.
We’re looking for someone who specialises in **desktop software interfaces**, particularly complex creative tools, music production software, virtual instruments, or audio plugins.
## About the Project
We are developing a new **virtual music instrument and creative software platform** for musicians and producers.
The software will include three primary areas:
* **Synth** — a powerful virtual synthesizer with a range of sound-design controls
* **FX** — effects and sound-processing tools
* **Play** — a new interactive mode designed around a more intuitive and expressive way of interacting with the instrument
We already have the underlying product concept, functionality and requirements. We now need a talented designer to turn these into a **beautiful, intuitive and cohesive desktop software experience**.
## What You'll Do
You'll be responsible for designing the complete user interface and user experience of the software.
This includes:
* Designing desktop application layouts and interfaces
* Creating intuitive user flows and navigation
* Designing the Synth, FX and Play interfaces
* Designing controls such as knobs, sliders, buttons, menus, panels and displays
* Creating clear visual hierarchy for complex information
* Designing interaction states and behaviours
* Creating wireframes where appropriate
* Producing high-fidelity UI designs
* Developing a consistent UI design system
* Designing reusable components
* Iterating on designs based on feedback
* Preparing designs for developer handoff
**You will not be responsible for writing code.**
## Who We're Looking For
We're looking for a designer with **strong UI/UX experience in desktop software**.
You should have:
* Proven experience designing desktop applications
* A strong portfolio demonstrating high-quality software UI
* Excellent understanding of UX and interaction design
* Strong visual/UI design skills
* Experience designing complex interfaces with many controls
* Experience with **Figma**
* Excellent attention to detail
* An ability to turn functional requirements into simple, intuitive interfaces
* An understanding of how professional creative software should work and feel
### Audio / Music Experience Is Highly Preferred
Experience designing software in the music or audio space would be a major advantage.
For example:
* Virtual synthesizers
* Audio plugins
* DAWs
* MIDI software
* DJ software
* Music production tools
* Effects processors
* Hardware companion applications
* Other creative/audio software
If you've designed interfaces for products used by **musicians, producers, DJs or sound designers**, we'd particularly like to see that work.
You don't necessarily need to be a musician, but having a genuine understanding of music-production workflows would be highly valuable.
## The Design Direction
We're looking for an interface that feels:
**Premium · Modern · Minimal · Intuitive · Creative · Technical**
The software should feel like a **professional music instrument**, not a generic desktop application or SaaS dashboard.
We're particularly interested in designers who know how to make complex functionality feel **simple and enjoyable to use** without sacrificing depth.
## Deliverables
Depending on the final scope, deliverables will include:
* UX flows
* Wireframes
* High-fidelity UI designs
* Complete screen designs
* Interactive prototypes
* Reusable UI components
* Design system
* Different UI states and interactions
* Figma source files
* Developer handoff/specifications
## What We Have
We already have:
* Product requirements
* Core functionality defined
* Existing concepts and ideas for the interface
* Brand/product direction
* Development team
You'll be working closely with us to translate these requirements into the final software experience.
## To Apply
Please provide:
1. **Your portfolio**
2. Examples of **desktop software UI/UX you've designed**
3. Examples of any **music, audio, synthesizer, plugin or creative software** you've worked on
4. A brief description of your experience with desktop software design
5. Your **hourly rate or estimated project cost**
6. Your availability over the next 1–2 months
7. Confirmation that you work with **Figma**
**Please prioritise your portfolio and relevant examples over a long written application.**
We're looking for someone whose previous work immediately demonstrates that they understand how to design **beautiful, professional creative software**.
