Next.js Developer (WordPress-to-Headless Migration)
Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Full-Stack Next.js Developer to help migrate our existing directory site (tsdlive.ca) to a modern Next.js architecture (tsddesign.ca).
The technical stack, database structure, design direction, and core components have already been heavily prototyped using AI tools (Claude). We need a sharp developer to implement, refine, and ship production-ready code faithfully from these specs, handle a sensitive 700+ record SEO migration, and integrate custom media components.
We actively encourage and expect you to leverage modern AI coding assistants (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, AntiGravity, GitHub Copilot). We care about clean architecture, high performance, and fast iteration—not whether you typed every line by hand. But we do require that you are experienced in Next.js development, so you know how to monitor, govern, and correct AI solutions.
Core Responsibilities
Frontend & Stack Implementation: Build the app using Next.js (App Router), React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, and deploy on Vercel.
Backend & Data Modeling: Set up PostgreSQL with Prisma ORM to house our 700+ record directory.
Search & Auth: Integrate Algolia search for fast directory filtering and NextAuth for user management.
SEO & Migration Integrity: Execute a seamless cutover from WordPress—including full 301 redirect mapping for all existing listing URLs, canonical tags, sitemap regeneration, and Google Search Console tracking.
AI Spec Refinement: Review AI-generated architecture docs and code snippets, flagging gaps in data validation, security, error handling, or state management before building.
Requirements
1. Technical Stack
Deep expertise with Next.js (App Router), TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, and Vercel.
Strong relational database design skills (PostgreSQL / Prisma ORM).
Proven track record with WordPress-to-headless migrations and 301 redirect strategy.
2. Modern AI-Assisted Workflow
Active use of AI IDEs/Tools: Proficiency with tools like Cursor, Claude Code, AntiGravity, or GitHub Copilot as part of your daily development environment.
Critical AI Code Evaluation: Ability to quickly audit, sanitize, and optimize AI-generated specs or code—ensuring robust error handling, auth security, and clean architecture.

Contract Type & Paid Trial
Type: Hourly or Fixed-Price Milestone (Contract-to-Hire / Project Basis)
Trial Period: Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a paid 4–8 hour micro-trial to build a single Next.js listing page component from our Claude spec docs and an existing live page.
