I’m ready to turn a desktop idea into a build that installs cleanly on modern Windows machines and sails through SmartScreen, Microsoft Defender, and mainstream browser checks without “unknown publisher” or “potentially unsafe” warnings. I don’t want shortcuts or hacks—just a solid trust posture built on best-practice engineering.
Your role is to guide and implement everything that security reputation systems look for. That means writing the application itself, structuring the project so every binary is deterministically built, signed, and versioned, and shaping the distribution workflow so reputation can accumulate naturally. We will lean on techniques such as EV or standard code-signing certificates, MSIX or MSI packaging, and a repeatable CI/CD pipeline (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or comparable). Transparent behaviour analysis, clean telemetry, and VirusTotal sanity checks belong in the process as well.
Deliverables
• Compiled Windows desktop application (language and framework are flexible; C#, .NET 8, or C++/WinRT all acceptable if they serve the goal).
• Automated build script that signs every executable and installer with my certificate or a test cert.
• Step-by-step documentation: SmartScreen reputation milestones, browser download signalling, submission to Microsoft Security Intelligence, and ongoing release hygiene.
• A short report explaining how future updates should be packaged so reputation is preserved rather than reset.
Acceptance criteria
• Fresh virtual machine install triggers no SmartScreen “unrecognized app” dialog after initial reputation is established according to Microsoft guidance.
• Downloaded installer shows my verified publisher name in Windows, Edge, and Chrome.
• Static and behavioural scans on VirusTotal show 0/70 detections.
• Build can be reproduced from source with one command in the supplied pipeline script.
