First milestone: Khanpora Baramulla kashmir Shah family genealogy , who believe there ancestor came with Syed Jambaz Wali from Ishfahan to Kashmir Baramulla around 650 yrs ago.
Second milestone: Historical Rifa'i personalities and manuscripts, as Syed Jambaz Wali was great grandson of Syed Ahmad Rufai , Syed Jambaz Wali did not have any son but there were about 120 companions accompanying him from isfahan Iran , and probably our Shah Family descended from one of this companion. There were many Syed companions also. Our family still shows the holy relic at the shrine of Syed Jambaz Wali . I already have 8 generations back shajra nasab as follows , Dr Shah Naveed Son of Dr Altaf Hussain Shah , Son of Ghulam Nabi Shah son of Ghulam Qadir Shah , Son of Mohammad Shah , Son of Jameel Shah , Son of Wali Shah , I want to find more back than this as far as possible.
Historical Genealogy Research – Rifa'i Sayyid Family of Kashmir (Baramulla)
I am looking for an experienced freelance genealogist, historical researcher or academic researcher to investigate my paternal family's ancestry and establish its possible connection with the historical Rifa'i Sayyid Sufi lineage of Kashmir.
Research Background
My paternal family belongs to the Shah family of Khanpora, Baramulla, Kashmir, Jammu & Kashmir, India.
I am particularly interested in investigating the historical connection between my family and the Rifa'i Sufi tradition associated with Hazrat Sayyid Muhammad Janbaz Wali of Khanpora, Baramulla.
Main Research Objectives
- Trace my paternal Shah family genealogy backwards through historical generations.
- Investigate the possible biological Sayyid ancestry and connection with the Rifa'i lineage.
- Research the historical personalities:
- Sayyid Muhammad Janbaz Wali (Khanpora, Baramulla).
- Sayyid Abdul Latif.
- Mir Sayyid Shamsuddin Rifa'i.
- Mir Muhammad Shah Rifa'i.
- Investigate possible connections between these personalities and the Shah/Pirzada families of Khanpora and Baramulla.
- Establish whether any documented genealogical connection exists with the descendants of Imam Ahmad al-Rifa'i.
Historical Sources to Investigate
I am particularly interested in original documentary evidence, including:
- Shajra Nasab and hereditary genealogical registers.
- Persian and Urdu historical manuscripts.
- Historical revenue records, Jamabandi, Khewat, Khasra and mutation registers.
- Waqf records and shrine custodianship documents.
- Historical records from the 19th and early 20th centuries.
- Persian chronicles and historical accounts of Kashmir.
- Inscriptions, shrine records, manuscripts and family archives.
- Academic publications and digitised historical books.
Existing Research and Leads
- The Naib Tehsildar, Baramulla, has confirmed the availability of the 1959–60 Shajra Nasab for Qoum Shah of Mauza Khanpora.
- Two relevant land Khasra numbers have been identified: 1235 and 1244.
- Applications have been submitted to obtain Shajra Nasab records.
- Research is underway concerning the historical custodianship of the shrine of Hazrat Janbaz Wali.
- Historical references to Janbaz Wali have been identified in Persian chronicles and academic publications.
Expected Deliverables
1. A documented paternal family tree with names, dates and relationships.
2. Identification of the earliest traceable ancestors.
3. Verification of the claimed Rifa'i biological lineage, if evidence permits.
4. Copies, references or photographs of relevant historical documents.
5. Translation and transcription of relevant Persian and Urdu records.
6. A chronological historical report with properly cited sources.
7. Clear distinction between biological ancestry, Sufi spiritual lineage (Silsila/Khilafat) and hereditary shrine custodianship.
Required Expertise
- Experience in South Asian and Kashmiri genealogy.
- Knowledge of Persian, Urdu and historical Arabic scripts.
- Familiarity with Kashmir's historical revenue and archival records.
- Experience researching Sayyid families and Sufi orders, particularly the Rifa'i tradition.
- Ability to access archives, libraries, historical manuscripts and government records.
Important: I am seeking genuine historical and documentary verification, not an assumed or fabricated prestigious lineage. Conflicting accounts and uncertain identifications must be clearly highlighted.
Please submit examples of previous genealogical or historical archival research, your proposed methodology, estimated timeline and budget.
